Why MR. FREEZE won't be in a new BATMAN franchise

Most of us want to see Mr. Freeze in a new Batman reboot. With the Justice League movie connected to a new Batman franchise, the odds are slimmer for Mr. Freeze to appear on screen. Click on to find out why..

The Justice League movie would connect Batman to a larger universe filled with heroes like Superman and The Flash. A lot of people would like to see a Mr. Freeze done right in a new Batman franchise. I'd like to see Mr. Freeze on screen again after Schwarzenegger's "cheesy" performance in Batman & Robin, but the chances are slim for him to appear on screen because of this certain character..

Captain Cold! Captain Cold is one of Flash's greatest villains so it is very possible he'll appear in a Flash movie. The odds that DC will have two different ice-themed villains to star in their movies is very unlikely. Batman has a large rouge gallery and there are still many bat villains that haven't been adapted to the big screen (Hugo Strange, Killer Croc, Hush). Flash's rouges can be to complicated to adapt to the big screen (Gorilla Grodd, Mirror Master) or just to simple to be the main villain of a movie (Trickster, Captain Boomerang). This leaves a hand full of villains who could be the main match against the Flash (Reverse-Flash, Captain Cold, Heat Wave?)

It's still possible that Mr. Freeze could star in a new Batman movie, or that Captain Cold won't be used at all! This is my opinion on why Mr. Freeze won't be in a new Batman franchise. Comment your thoughts below!

You can have both. Captain Cold should have Ice Powers like he does in the New 52. Captain Cold is more evil for the sake of evil while Freeze is evil for the sake of saving his wife.

2 completely different characters, only similarity is that they use ice and snow.

@Levi: Actually, Captain Cold is evil and wants to kill The Flash cause Captain Cold's sister was dying of cancer and the hospital didn't have enough energy to power a laser that could save her life cause of an EMP seemingly caused by The Flash.

Either way, I'd love to have them both but Captain Cold (new 52 version) would give his respective film a greater benefit story wise than Mr. Freeze

I'd love to see a mix of the old and new Captain Cold. He could start with the guns and gain the powers later in the film.

Either way you can have both. Look at Mandarin and Ra's.

Both are very similar and yet both worked.

This is coming from the successful movie career of DrDoom, the villain of Fantastic Four & Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

And the villain who was defeated by Squirrel Girl

Avengers 3 is going to be epic, I can already feel it. The Avengers vs Thanos. The most anticipated climax since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 a.k.a the greatest finale in history.

Reverse Flash for the first one and don't call him that, then in the sequel have Albert Desmond be responsible for a breed of genetically engineered extremely intelligent and superpowered apes (similar to Rise of the Planet of the Apes) led by Gorilla Grodd. Third movie is Mirror Master leading the rogues

I don't think you can have either.

The ice gimmick is too cheesy for movies, no matter who is doing it. It works great visually on the page or in cartoons because its such a fantastical thing. But in a film its much more problematic.

Look at Bobby Drake in X-Men. They couldn't do much with him except for a couple of small tricks. The biggest effect they could pull off was an Ice wall. When he went full body Iceman, it looked ridiculous. If he slid around on ice slides it'd look ridiculous. Ideally, you'd want the type of action Frozone delivers in The Incredibles, but again, that's animated. Too expensive (and arguably silly) for DC's current, serious tone.

@ LEVITKUZ:
Ra's Al Ghul worked because he's more realistic than Freeze. They omitted the fantastical element, the Lazarus Pit, but could still pull it off because that doesn't define his character.
You couldn't do the same for Victor Fries because he is defined by his gimmick.

And judging by the backlash, I don't know if I'd say Mandarin worked at all. Since neither IM3 villain was even close to the essence of who the character is, one can only conclude that the only way to do offbeat characters like Mandarin or Freeze, is to change them beyond recognition.

In the movies, Mandarin and Ra's aren't similar because of coincidence, they are similar because one ripped off the other.

@RobGrizzly: I think the Mandarin twist worked. It may not have been what fans wanted but what fans wanted would have came off ridiculous, a million times more so than you thinking Iceman being completely covered than ice. Mandarin worked.

As far as Flash goes. Here's my order of Flash villains for a trilogy.

The Flash: Captain Cold
The Scarlet Speedster: Reverse-Flash
The Fastest Man Alive: Mirror Master

@DrDoom Question, have you even read any Flash comics?

I'd rather have a Flash movie with Mirror Master than Captain Cold. And I'd rather have Mr. Freeze over Cold, too.

Doom went from slightly amusing to a complete and total ass.

People like him are the reason this site has gone to hell.

@DrDoom you REALLY don't like Flash do you?

Freeze from the old Batman animated series would be a good adaptation of the character. Captain Cold has that vicious streak that would vex the Flash.

Hehehehe "Mr. Freeze is a cool villain"
I see what you did there...

This is a valid point though - and it's partially why Watchmen suffered a bit. You have the Dark Knight stealing the ending for the book just a year, not even a full year earlier - and then the Watchmen goes along almost verbatim with the heroes keeping Ozymandias' secret.

I'd rather see someone else from Batman's rogues who hasn't had a movie adaptation. The last two Nolan movies did completely different things with the characters - and kudos to them - but we need a change of scenery.

Captain Cold would be nice if he wasn't a sympathetic villain especially if he's going to be origin movie material, don't want to GA coming out of the cinema with brain freeze. But keep Mr Freeze sympathetic because that's what the GA tend to identify him as, which is great about CC is that he isn't entirely established within GA minds so we don't have to go all nutters on how we introduce CC. This is definitely an icy topic though.

I'd like to see Mirror Master as the bad guy in a mind-bending, timetravelling Flash film.

The bad guy for the new Batman should be The Riddler with Batman having to use his detective skills...

@Jefferys: Sympathetic villains are the best kind of villains.

@indigobolt956: That would be messed up if people would want Gorilla Grodd in a Flash movie after bitching immensely about The Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man and how cartoony they thought he was and how fake they thought he looked.
