Ben Affleck Gives His Thoughts On BATMAN V SUPERMAN
Ben Affleck is one of the best directors working today, so what does he think about Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice? Well, he unsurprisingly loves it, but he's also very aware of why critics didn't.
Whether you loved it or not, Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will probably go down as one of the most talked about comic book movies ever. We've heard from much of the cast and crew about the overwhelming negative response the film received, but we haven't heard much from Batman star Ben Affleck until very recently.
While promoting his upcoming film The Accountant, the director of the next Batman standalone film was asked what he thought about Batman v Superman, and the negative reception surrounding the film. "It's interesting: It was a huge hit movie -- more people went to see that than any movie I've made in my career," Affleck told FOX 5's Kevin McCarthy. "It was the biggest hit of my career and then it had so much editorial negativity. Fans went, and I got a lot of positive response. It was interesting, that movie, because it was judged not necessarily on execution so much as on its tone. People seemed to want to have a lighter tone to the movie, and I thought that was interesting. Tone is not a qualitative thing. It's subjective, right? Some tones resonate with me that might not with you. And the tone of the movie was really parallel to the Frank Miller book [The Dark Knight Returns], which I liked and thought was great. I'm glad that so many people went and so many people liked the movie."
Finally, when asked directly as to whether or not he liked the film, Affleck responded saying, "Yeah. Yeah, I loved it."
Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before. Starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, and Holly Hunter, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is directed by Zack Snyder, written by Chris Terrio from David S. Goyer's screenplay.
