Henry Cavill Talks About Man of Steel Reviews And Exploring Superman In BATMAN V SUPERMAN

Man of Steel was a fantastic starting point for the DCEU back in 2013, but all did not love the film. The critics were divisive and the majority of the fans loved it. Just as any film ever made, Man of Steel had its flaws. In a recent interview with Cineplex for his upcoming film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, actor Henry Cavill spoke about the mixed reviews that came out for his first outing as Superman. “The reception of my first Superman movie, from what I’ve read, was fairly mixed,” he says. “Everyone I’ve spoken to enjoyed the movie, but [not] unlike if you’re going to meet a stranger in the street, they’re not going to badmouth you to your face. There’s no intentional move, I don’t think, in Batman v. Superman to address any issues that people had with Man of Steel. It’s just a continuation of that storyline and they continue to develop that world and introduce new characters.” Its good to know that they aren't backtracking and that they've accepted what happened with Man of Steel.

Cavill went on to talk about the aspect of a different Superman in the world that comes with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and how he's ready to explore his character of Superman to even greater levels. “I think maybe people may look down on some popular-culture stuff, but they’re actually very complicated and interesting characters,” Cavill stated. "Superman especially, he’s just wonderfully rich and one of those things, for me, that’s just enjoyable to play. There’s so far you can go with it; if you really, really delve deep into the character, there’s so much you can do. It’s just about exploring it within the vehicles and finding what you want to do. He’s going to have some very interesting character development in this one.” Many believe that Batman v Superman will focus more on Ben Affleck's Batman, but from what it sounds like, we might get more of Superman than we anticipated. What do you think about what Cavill said? Are you excited to explore Superman more?

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters March 25th, 2016.

Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before. Starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, and Holly Hunter, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is directed by Zack Snyder, written by Chris Terrio from David S. Goyer's screenplay.

I am glad even Henry C. knows they are correcting the issues that MOS was overly criticized for.

He's kinda bland as Superman. Doesn't have that charm Reeves or the animated 90s version had.

@SnapperCarr

Ummm there is some truth to what you are saying. Reeves did have that charm......but Henry Cavill physique and look screams Superman.

But after seeing him in Man from Uncle.....he does have personality...which leads me to believe it was the script or direction in MOS that kinda made him bland.

Even he knows MOS had mixed reviews, to say the least, yet fanboys say is the best cbm ever, the most rewatchable cbm and so on.
Movie is not bad, but it's not great either.

Look the problem with MOS was really 2 important elements:

Script by David Goyer

Cinematography

I don't know why people don't talk about the cinematography sucking. We all know Goyer's a hack writer who can't do shit right that said he was surprised to see his name on a movie as good as The Dark Knight & who Wesley Snipes wanted to and tried to murder while filming Blade 3. Maybe it's me but the look of MOS was terrible. I like Snyder. He's got passion. Sure he ain't the brightest director but he's got a good visual eye. Mos looked like dogshit. I love the visual element of 300 & Watchmen. MOS looked really liked Snyder trying to do a Nolan type film when not even Nolan wanted that. Nolan himself knew he wouldn't know how to direct a Superman film since he's into practical effects. That's one reason why he picked Snyder. And because every other director passed.

Thank God both key problems are fixed for BvS. We got Terrio on the script and Larry as the cinematography. None of the actors were an issue with MOS and while Snyder isn't the best director, it's nice that he's hands on with the actors because that's important.

@jaspion

The best CBM is up to the viewer........there will never be a single consensus on which CBM is the best.

As far as MOS.....well I personally think it is a great movie......not a masterpiece. I have watched the movie 12 times now and it never gets old.

Man of Steel wasn't a perfect film by any means, but I loved the hell out of it and it's easily my favorite Superman movie out of all the ones we've had so far.

I blame the script for him being bland. Not much to do when you're suppose to stand around and listen to people. Hell I don't even think Cavill talked in the first 40 minutes of the film.

I hit but I think the thumbs up button doesn't do anything anymore.....since people were thumbing stupid articles to get it on main.

The cinematography wasn't a problem in the final fight with Zod, maybe in the Smallville battle but was great anyway.

I liked the DBZ style of fight.

@Kr08 thumbs up really ain't worth it.

I've almost been back for a full year and I haven't gotten one article on the main. Well I mean they were on the main but only briefly before they were taken down. It's why I have only written one editorial. Because if nobody sees it, what's the point of me writing an editorial? I don't get anything for clicks or views. I just want feedback on whether people agree or disagree with my thesis statement.

Yup, it's so stupid that they didn't use Larry Fong for MoS. Instead they used the guy who did Transformers, wtf. Nolan went to Snyder probably thinking he'd go full out Watchmen, instead Snyder got the wrong impression.

Snyder movies are all about style, and he took his best quality out of the movie for the most part.

Now you made me want to write an editorial good enough to make the main to prove you wrong that editorials can make the main.

Damn you lol

@LEVITIKUZ Editorials will make it with enough votes, but they won't stay. If you do, it's gotta be perfect. Not one single mistake. Lol

Batman is my all time favorite Comic Book Character, Never been a Superman fan. But Man Of Steel was an awesome movie, It wasn't trying to be a Oscar worthy film. It showed us what the previous movies lacked in terms of action & visuals, Yes the script from Goyer was not his best but i still enjoyed it. I have asked many friends and family before about what they thought of Man Of Steel, And most answers were positive than negative.

Cavill is perfect as Superman. He was not the problem with that movie. Cinematography, score and the director were. In fact, the actors all pretty much nailed it.

He's a solid superman. He just lacks charm and some charisma. He's really stoic

And if I meet him on the street, I'll be sure to give him an honest appraisal of Man of Steel (filled with genuine praise for his performance), in exchange for Gina Carano's phone number.

Oooh, baby.

@Amazing512

I'm a total sucker for the "comics as modern myth" stuff, but when they overtly call the characters the Pantheon or the Trinity, I tend to agree that it sounds presumptuous.

Well it's good that he's at least humble enough to acknowledge the mixed reception for MOS. I just wish that Cavill himself was a much better actor. Not that the material in the first film did him any favors (seriously, how many lines did he actually get?), but I've yet to see a performance from him that I was overly impressed with.

Spock0Clock

And even if I generally like the idea of superheroes as modern gods, they are still modern. As in, they are unique entities that have a distinct cultural meaning and value separate from (and often in opposition to) traditional religious iconography. This kind of ham-fisted nonsense doesn't make Superman more God-like. It makes him a Jesus knock-off.

"You will give the people of Earth an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun, Kal. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders."

"You can save them... You can save all of them."

All of it presupposes that by the nature of his birth, he has a moral superiority to humans. Maybe I'm not the best target for a Jesus analogy, considering I'm an atheist, but nearly all of Man of Steel's religious overtones rang sour to me.

As opposed to something as simple as this:

Moral clarity established. This is the kind of thing you want from a modern god. (Not that moral clarity is the only asset or even a required one for that, but it was something clearly both films were hoping to establish. One by just claiming it, the other by demonstrating it.)
