TDKR's Anne Hathaway Has Some Advice For Our New 'Lex Luthor'

"Don’t be afraid to make it your own." Hathway, who played Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, offers some advice to her Rio 2 costar Jesse Eisenberg on bringing an iconic comic book character to life on the big screen.

Jesse Eisenberg being picked to play Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder's sequel to Man Of Steel has to go down as one of the most controversial casting choices in recent memory. Though a few fans have since warmed to the idea, backlash is still pretty rampant on many forums. But -- as Anne Hathaway points out in the following video interview with Total Film -- he WAS cast for a reason. Here's what the former Selina Kyle/Catwoman had to say when asked what advice she'd give to Eisenberg after taking on such a huge CBM role.

“I wish I could say something, but it’s going to be his experience. Keep a journal, which I’m sure he does some version of that already, just to remember it. Don’t be afraid to make it your own. In my case, people criticized, criticized, criticized until they saw it, and then a lot of people liked what I did. Don’t listen to anyone, do your thing. They cast you for a reason. I think he’ll be remarkable, I’m excited to see it.”

There is no denying that the casting for BVS has been surprising. When Ben was cast as Batman I was just so shocked because I didn't think he would take it. Now with Lex, I thought they would go with the typical lex so Jesse's casting took me by surprise.

He's going to be a good character (maybe) named Lex Luthor, not the Lex Luthor from the comics.

CA:TWS is awesome. ;)

I am not sold on Jesse playing Lex but I am not counting him out either. Again I am eager to see how he portrays Lex and how the whole movie shakes out. Like many other people I would not be shocked if his performance is beyond amazing.

Anne Hathaway brought nothing new or inspired to the Catwoman role.

Sorry to those who liked her in it, but it wasn't really all that great or meaty of a role, and she's not nearly sexy enough to pull off what Catwoman should be.

I was never against Hathaway, and I don't really remember people being all that negative about it, either. There are always some fan squabbling, but the Eisenberg casting has been much more contentious (only really rivaled by Affleck and Ledger).

My advice to Eisenberg would be: don't be yourself. Ledger knocked it out of the park because he pulled an amazing performance out of nowhere. It's still hard to watch TDK and see Ledger under the makeup and performance. You won't have the benefit of makeup, so your performance is key. Whatever you do, do not come across as a petulant spoiled brat. Those Luthor performances are always bad and you in particular look that part...

Honestly, I'd really like to see the screen test, because I can't imagine what DC is even going for with this Luthor if it isn't the "whaa whaa I don't like Stupidman" mixed with heavy doses of Zuckerberg.

I hope Lex dresses up like Catwoman. It would be an amazing twist in MOS2 and the haters will go nuts like they already are.

Anne was the perfect Catwoman.

Her hip movements alone made her a fantastic Catwoman.

Preach girl!
Fans don't realise that the Studios put a huge amount of time, effort and money into these projects and they are extremely careful when it comes to casting, they cast Jesse and Gal Gadot for a reason, we weren't in the audition room but something made those producers and the studio think "wow we need this person" over the many other actors and actresses who were dying for these roles

My God! she was the cat more lifeless woman who has seen the movie, so really like her as an actress, but I want is for her to stay away from the DC universe. Morena Baccarin would be perfect for the part of Catwoman.

Loved Hathaway as Selina Kyle. Made Pfieffer and Halle Berry look like two-bit trollops. She's gorgeous. Will never forget when she climbed on the BatPod...Dat ASS, Damn!

That, and she's an incredible actress. Don't believe me? Watch Love and Other Drugs.

I think Eisenberg will make a great Lex, just like Affleck will make a great Batman. It's Superman and WW that I'm worried about.

Also, her little monologue during the dancing scene with Bruce, was phenomenal. She brought a real gravitas to that scene, if not every scene that she was in.

Hey guys, i just had a thought on what WB should do with Man of steel 2. If they made Doomsday the villian and he kills Superman at the end, that could be a reason for the Justice League being created. Batman and co would feel like if a villain as strong as that ever returns, they can't stop him individually and would need to create a team. Also, Black Adam could then come in as well as they would see him as the new Superman. And of course in the Justice League movie, Black Adam turns bad, superman comes back and helps stop him and at the very end, they show Billy Batson becomning Shazam.

That's some good advice, but, it should be a given. I don't know why anyone in their right mind would give a flying fu¢k about someone's opinion when it's based on nothing but speculation anyway.

She's right, and she was a wonderful Selina Kyle. Didn't have much to do as catwoman though.

Now let's go through 12 pages of the same bs that happens on just about every Marvel, DC, Nolan, and Fox related article. It goes something like this:

(Insert one of the above): sucks
Then someone replies with long winded rant why it doesn't (yes I used to be one of those).
Griff comment
Someone butt hurt over Griff comment not realizing he's just a parody of a troll 99% of the time.
Then a wave of trolls on both sides come in, start spewing the SAME crap from previous comment sections.
Someone attemoting to be the voice of reason.
Then the marvel elitist come in saying Marvel hasn't made one bad movie while DC has a ton and can't get their shit together.
Which in turn brings out the Nolan fans, which brings out the Nolan haters.
Then you have the person who digs up reviews and box office numbers and speaks as if they are the be all end all of arguments.
Sprinkled through out are the ones that claim to be comicbook purists and bitch that the movies don't follow the comics. ( these ppl are the lowest of the low right above ppl who create accounts just to troll).
Also sprinkled in are genuine thought provoking comments which most ppl ignore because they don't fit the flame war narrative and most users cant wrap their heads around such well written articulate posts (these are rare about 1 in every 100 comments you will read are one of these).
Add those to about 50-100 gifs or memes and there you have it. Every cbm comment section.

This site is wonderful for comicbook movies, but the comment sections ruin them most of the time.
