BLACK ADAM: Dwayne Johnson Reacts To First Cut Of DC Movie: "I Am Happy, Yet Not Satisfied"

Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson recently saw an early director's cut of the DC Comics adaptation, and shares his thoughts on how the movie is progressing and how much work is left to perfect the project.

Dwayne Johnson has been doing the rounds to promote Netflix's Red Notice, and Collider managed to sneak in a few questions about upcoming DC Comics adaptation Black Adam. Interestingly, despite being pleased with the project's progress after recently watching the first director's cut, it appears the actor is aware there's still work that needs to be done.

"I think we’re in a really good place. I think now’s the time...we take our time, yet there has to be some expediency to it because we do have to have the movie ready by next summer," Johnson explains. "I think Jaume delivered a great first cut. Black Adam is the kind of movie that, from the beginning, it had the makings and the bones to be something unique."

After praising Jaume Collet-Serra, the Black Adam star went on to say that "At this point of the cut, there’s a clear and defining anchor to Black Adam’s code, and I think that’s really important as we look to build out the character, as we look to build out the franchise, as we also look to build out the JSA (Justice Society of America) and introduce them and launch them properly as well."

Johnson concluded by saying, "I am happy, yet not satisfied, and we will continue to put the work in, and the teaser that we showed about three weeks ago, it was a good indicator of what’s to come."

It's an interesting choice of words from the actor, though by no means a sign that he's in any way dissatisfied with how Black Adam is coming along. Ultimately, Johnson just wants to put in the work to make the movie as good as it can be, and that's completely understandable given the scale of the project.

Getting this character right during his introduction will be key, and Warner Bros. no doubt has ambitious plans for those Justice Society of America members as well.

Black Adam will thunder into theatres on July 29, 2022.

It’s gonna be something if this ends up not CHANGING THE HIERARCHY OF POWER IN THE DCEU and not being all that good.

And I liked the clip they released.

Like how you cast a Middle Eastern woman as an Egyptian deity because an actress of African descent wouldn't make sense?

@Waddles - Love Kipo, best show to come out of this pandemic.

Sucks, netflix said no to the Wolf movie, creator might take kipo movies to another service.

He is also working on a new show called Brave War

@SolarSoldier - Did you cry when they cast a Black American in the role of an African king? Why didn't they hire an actual African for the role?

@Killuminatic - Egypt is definitely considered part of the Middle East by plenty of scholars. North Africa more specifically for some. It borders the Gaza Strip my guy. https://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/map/north-africa-map.htm

Glad they arent just replicating what worked in Shazam.

Still not sure about the present setting and the inclusion of the JSA

Would have rather had a Black Adam origin set in ancient times, with Hawkman and Doctor Fate in supporting roles

“Not satisfied. Needs more reminders that the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change. Also needs a lot more ME.”
