So far, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has taken audiences to Earth, Asgard and all around the Galaxy. The next place on the list is the secluded African nation of Wakanda, rich with vibranium and home to cutting-edge technology.

When audiences are reintroduced to T'Challa, the king of Wakanda, they will be in the midst of viewing a very different type of Marvel movie, according to director Ryan Coogler. The movie will explore many conflicts within, and outside of Wakanda, including T'Challa's personal conflicts. In addition to that, the film will greatly emphasize political conflicts in the fog of war while also feeling very vibrant and energetic, constantly exploring the culture and dynamic of the people in the African nation.

Black Panther will be Ryan Coogler's largest production yet, but also his most personal. Following the comics tradition, Black Panther would be the first major blockbuster superhero movie to headline with people of color leading the cast. Coogler will make sure the film will be epic and exciting, while accurately portraying the fictional African country.

Ryan Coogler offers some insight on T'Challa's character (via Deadline):

“In our film, you find him at a time where he lost his father, the most important person in his life. He’s inheriting this incredible responsibility. He’s inheriting it at a time when Wakanda is struggling what its identity might be and the people have different ideas of what they should do. He’s incredibly conflicted but is aware of his responsibility of what to do."

Black Panther hits theatres February 16, 2018.

Struggling with losing his dad, getting Wakanda together and rising to the responsibility of a King? [frick] that sounds good.

@Kevwebsz - Almost mirroring Thor's recent situation, yet poles apart in mythos and character that it shouldn't be noticeable. The trailer looks great, looking forward to this.

Always held trust in Coogler, and these are the exact elements I had hoped he would address with the film. This is honestly the comic film I’m most excited for next year, because of him. Coogler is two for two, and it’s a very strong two. Black Panther should feel unique and tonally different from the rest of the MCU, and this gives me faith that it will. I’m sure there will be some connective consistencies, but Panther really should have double the tone of what Winter Soldier had.

I'm pretty damn amped for Infinity War, but I keep forgetting we have this little nugget in between now and until Infinity War. The only thing is, this movie isn't a little nugget, it has some of the most promising talent with Marvel to date, and it shows in the trailers, I'd be surprised if this film doesn't end up being in mostly everyone's top 5 MCU films, and very possibly top 5 comic book films. So in some ways, it's kind of good that I'm focusing on Infinity War, it'll give Black Panther the opportunity to sneak up on me and blow me away.

I don't think there's anything I've read or seen about this movie that has disappointed me yet. I love what I'm reading in this interview. Ryan Coogler is such a talent.

I don't know if BP is his most personal film. Unless he's said otherwise, I gotta put that on 'Fruitvale Station'.

Coogler is from the Bay Area of California where Oscar Grant, the subject of the film, was killed by a BART Police Officer. I'm also from the Bay Area and out here, it's like we live in our own world. It's hard for us to imagine the world extends passed out cities, it's so lush with life.
That event rocked our homes and touched on Coogler on a personal level.
Not to mention FS was his first venture into feature length films.

I'm ranting while this blunt burns, but Coogler is the man. He's got a perfect track record so far and it's incredibly impressive to see a Bay Area native helming 'Black Panther' as his third film.

He's gonna kill it, and I no doubt believe he'll be wanted back for the sequel. Just the same as we want the Russos for By big casts, Gunn for the cosmic stuff, & Taika for anything Marvel wants to give him, Coogler is gonna own this corner of the MCU.

If we ever get the Netflix properties on screen, Coogler would be a great choice.

Anyone who's seen the great camera work and gritty, real feel of Coogler's CREED knows he's going to knock this film out of the park.

I have the utmost faith him.
