Comic book fans love Black Panther but despite the fact he's had a higher profile in recent years, T'Challa is still arguably a B or C-List character in the grand scheme of superheroes. Well, that's now beginning to change following the release of Captain America: Civil War and will no longer be the case when the movie - which boasts a star-studded cast led by Chadwick Boseman - hits the big screen.
Well, early word on Black Panther's box office prospects is here and current forecasts point to it having a $90+ million opening in North America. If so, that will give it the twelfth-highest opening of any Marvel Studios movie. As a result, it beats the likes of Captain America: The First Avenger, Ant-Man, Thor, and Doctor Strange which is far from a bad result. However, could this number rise at all?
Yes, especially as the marketing campaign is only just starting to kick off. Most interesting is the fact that if it can scrape up another $4 million, it will beat Justice League's $94 million debut last month. That would be a huge embarrassment for Warner Bros. as a group of the world's most iconic superheroes being beaten by a little-known Marvel character isn't exactly the best news for DC!
