Black Widow took on a starring role in both Avengers movies, Iron Man 2, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but she's yet to receive her own solo outing. Scarlett Johansson and Kevin Feige have both said in the past that there's a chance it could happen, but as we enter Phase 3, it still hasn't become a reality. Sadly, the recent box office performance of Ghost in the Shell is unlikely to help!
One person confident that Black Widow will happen sooner rather than later is Avengers: Infinity War star Chris Evans. Asked in a recent interview with Elle, he said this about making it a reality.
"That’s a good question. It would really just clean up, wouldn’t it? Scarlett [Johansson] is so good at everything she does. She’s played such a crucial part in the other films. She always makes her presence so felt—even when there are 50 different superheroes running around onscreen. I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens at some point in the future. I’m sure Scarlett would be open to it."
Unfortunately, this is obviously just Evans' opinion rather than any sort of inside information about the status of the possible Avengers spinoff, but it would be no bad thing to see Black Widow in Phase 4. With so many irons in the fire, it may never happen, but keep your fingers crossed for the time being!
