Kevin Feige Makes No Guarantees About BLACK WIDOW's Theatrical Release; Updates On BLACK PANTHER 2

Black Widow is currently set to hit theaters this May, but with the pandemic still wreaking havoc the world over, Marvel's Kevin Feige is making no guarantees that the movie won't wind up on Disney+...

Marvel's Black Widow was pushed back to May of this year after it became clear that the COVID-19 pandemic was going to be sticking around longer than any of us anticipated.

The vaccine is coming, and there is a decent chance that things will have returned to some semblance of normality by mid 2021, but nothing is guaranteed, and the studio doesn't seem to be ruling out a Disney+ release for Natasha Romanoff's long-awaited solo outing.

While speaking to Deadline, Kevin Feige was asked if he thinks Black Widow will stick with its current theatrical release or head to streaming, and made it very clear that all options are on the table.

"Don’t ask me week by week what is going to happen in this world, I have no idea and don’t want to guess," he replied. "Everything we’ve done at Marvel Studios has been based in ‘Ok, if everything goes perfectly, here’s what we’d like to do.’ And until this past year, things have gone remarkably well. And it’s my hope that the world gets back on track and we all get back into theaters, and that people will see and experience week by week for the low monthly fee of Disney+ of what we’re brining there, and then be excited to get together with people again in real life and sit with strangers and share an experience on the big screen."

Feige also offered an update on Black Panther 2, revealing that Ryan Coogler is currently writing the script. He also confirmed that the story would further explore the "characters and subcultures" of Wakanda, and that we are most definitely not "going to have a CG Chadwick, and we’re not recasting T’Challa."

"Ryan Coogler is working very hard right now on the script with all the respect and love and genius that he has, which gives us great solace, so it was always about furthering the mythology and the inspiration of Wakanda. There’s also the task of honoring and respecting the ongoing learnings and teachings from Chad as well."

Finally, the Marvel Studios head was asked if there are plans to revive any of the cancelled Netflix shows such as Daredevil and Luke Cage. All Feige would say is that the Disney+ content is their main focus, but added that he's "been at Marvel long enough to never say never about anything."

What do you guys make of Feige's comments? Do you think we'll be sitting in theaters watching Black Widow around this time 4 months from now?

Should recast T’Challa
Guess we have to wait 20 years to get t’challa’s full story. Once the mcu is out of charcters and has to reboot

@dracula - the actual interview says they won't recast Tchalla in black panther two. That leaves plenty of room for a recast in a couple years(preferably less)

Man, I thought losing Quicksilver so early was a loss for potential stories going forward. Losing Chadwick/T'Challa is on a whole other level.

No worries. We can only take it week by week. Even with vaccines rolling out, it's quite a long period before sociable activity is a possibility.

@TheWalkingCuban - Pollo vaccines are a hoax. They're just 90% meth and 10 lead from spent rounds.

The Chadwick/T'Challa business is...it ain't easy, to put it mildly...

I think you can make strong arguments for BOTH recasting or not recasting Chad as T'Challa.

The things people are saying, it always mostly comes from a place of love and respect, no one wants to hurt anybody's feelings.

And in this case, knowing what the right thing to do is...it's not easy, so i wish the best of luck to Coogler as well, but just like Kev, i trust that he'll do a good job at the end of the day.

This whole thing sucks but

I enjoy Wonder Woman 1984, but it is far below the first film and I wouldn't call either an Oscar winner.

Although who knows, with how bad 2020 is and so few movies, it might have a chance at a nomination.

@dracula - It's a pipe dream. Someone over there wasted their time, even in a year like this. Nomadland, Mank, Sound of Metal, Promising Young Woman, My Salinger Year, and Manari bury it in every sense of a films exceptionalism, and those are just ones that I can see and remember.

Just bring in a multiverse Tchalla. This way we keep the character, chad stays the original and they can recast.

They really should recast T'Challa. It's more honorable to allow a new talented actor to maintain the legacy of what Chadwick Boseman started. They didn't retire Superman after George Reeves died. So they shouldn't leave Black Panther with all the potential he has left to deliver.

@MasterMix - The backlash if they recast this soon would he horrendous. Hell no.

They should have recasted. I cannot imagine Boseman wanting the character retired.
Vanillain
Vanillain - 1/10/2021, 10:36 PM
If they won't recast T'Challa then maybe it's time to introduce an original MCU lead character to be the new Black Panther and adapt stories from T'Challa's runs. So that it won't be Not-T'Challa-But-Really-It-Is-T'Challa, they can use some of the original stories as baseline to refine, loosely adapt, or create new ones just as Marvel has been doing.

Just release your underwhelming BW movie already.

Idk but feels like only die hards were psyched for this, esp as its a dead character, and a prequel....

Tbh i’d guess he’s hiding a captain marvel type averageness.

Its one thing if the reviews are average, but the box office kills... its a whole other thing if the BO fails AND the movie got bad reviews. First clear kink in the machine.

Personally I think they should get a Multiverse Eric Killmonger who was already King and the Black Panther in his universe, but he was never a villain. T'Challa died at an early age when they were kids and Wakanda has now been totally destroyed and he lost his entire family to Thanos and Ultron teaming up. There were never any Avengers in his universe, and this is how we can get Michael B Jordan to come back.
