Scarlett Johansson Describes BLACK WIDOW As "Its Own Genre" & Names LOGAN As An Influence

Although we did find out quite a bit about Black Widow at SDCC, the Marvel Studios movie's plot remains shrouded in mystery for the most part. Now, star Scarlett Johansson has spilled some new details...

While this past weekend's San Diego Comic-Con did pull back the curtain on certain aspects of Marvel's solo Black Widow film (mostly as it pertains to the timeline and characters), we're still not entirely sure what to expect.

However, star Scarlett Johansson may have given us some idea of the tone the movie is aiming for during a post-SDCC interview with MTV.

"It's pretty gritty, but it's also surprising… it's kind of in its own genre, I think," she said, while being careful not to reveal too much. "Some of the movies that we talked about were The Fugitive, we talked about Logan, we talked about Terminator 2."

Logan is often brought up as an example of a "superhero" movie that places the focus on character over spectacle, so that may well be what Marvel and directer Cate Shortland are aiming for with Black Widow. Terminator 2 is also an intriguing mention - could we see some time-travel elements here, perhaps?

We know the story will mostkly play out as a prequel to Avengers: Endgame, but there is speculation that we could jump forward to present day MCU at some point.

What do you guys make of Johansson's comments? Black Widow is set for release on May 1, 2020.

@tmp3 - It's like Terminator 2, except the Terminator is also Sarah Conner, and she's protecting a younger Sarah Conner Terminator from an older Sarah Conner Terminator.

@tmp3 - Florence Pugh seems to be taking some kind of young sister role so I assume that's it.

@tmp3 - the other young lady cast was said to be like a sister to Widow in the film so maybe that's what they're talking about here

@tmp3 - You’ve probably cracked the plot there. Natasha helping Yelena escape from the Red Room, with Taskmaster on their trail.

For all who yearn for another Winter Soldier action spy thriller, this is our best shot. I'm getting more excited the more details that come out.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - The footage reaction did say the action was solid, but I'm still apprehensive. Scarjos action scenes have always felt the weakest in WS and CW, but I hope I'm wrong on this one. That's just in terms of her action though, story details sound solid imo.

@AbidNaga - Huh. I remember her kicking some serious butt at the beginning of Civil War.

she's going to be on the run a lot in this if that's the case..... using those films in that vein may work really well ..... they'll just have to tone task master down greatly .... cause she doesn't really stand a chance him like that , if they're using comic accurate design

Speaking of ScarJo, she might be an Oscar winner by the time this opens, since her new film with Noah Baumbach just got a big in competition slot at Venice. Probably a nom for Jojo Rabbit too?

@tmp3 - I'm willing to bet JoJo Rabbit gets a big fat 0 Oscar noms.

@L0RDbuckethead - I'll take you on that bet! Whoever loses gets quoted by Blue Morpho (forgot his @).
A Screenplay nom at worst.

@tmp3 - I could see it maybe getting a screenplay nom.

But either way, deal.
