While this past weekend's San Diego Comic-Con did pull back the curtain on certain aspects of Marvel's solo
Black Widow film (mostly as it pertains to the timeline and characters), we're still not entirely sure what to expect.
However, star Scarlett Johansson may have given us some idea of the tone the movie is aiming for during a post-SDCC interview with MTV.
"It's pretty gritty, but it's also surprising… it's kind of in its own genre, I think," she said, while being careful not to reveal too much.
"Some of the movies that we talked about were The Fugitive, we talked about Logan, we talked about Terminator 2."
Logan is often brought up as an example of a "superhero" movie that places the focus on character over spectacle, so that may well be what Marvel and directer Cate Shortland are aiming for with
Black Widow. Terminator 2 is also an intriguing mention - could we see some time-travel elements here, perhaps?
We know the story will mostkly play out as a prequel to
Avengers: Endgame, but there is speculation that we could jump forward to present day MCU at some point.
What do you guys make of Johansson's comments?
Black Widow is set for release on May 1, 2020.
