BLADE Star Stephen Dorff Trashes BLACK WIDOW And Says He's "Embarrassed" For Scarlett Johansson

Blade and True Detective star Stephen Dorff was recently asked what sort of projects interest him, and quickly took aim at Black Widow by describing it as a "bad video game." Read on for his comments...

You may remember Stephen Dorff from his villainous turn in the original Blade movie, and despite starring in some noteworthy projects since then (HBO's True Detective, for example), he's never really had a huge blockbuster role. It seems he's not particularly interested in one, either, which became evident during a recent interview with The Independent

Talking about the types of projects that appeal to him, Dorff unexpectedly took aim at Black Widow as the sort of movie he has no interest in joining.

"I still hunt out the good s**t because I don’t want to be in Black Widow. It looks like garbage to me. It looks like a bad video game. I’m embarrassed for those people," the actor exclaimed.

"I’m embarrassed for Scarlett! I’m sure she got paid five, seven million bucks, but I’m embarrassed for her. I don’t want to be in those movies. I really don’t," Dorff continued. "I’ll find that kid director that’s gonna be the next Kubrick and I’ll act for him instead."

Considering Johansson has been playing Natasha Romanoff since 2010, something tells us she has no regrets about Black Widow, especially when it's sitting pretty on Rotten Tomatoes with a "Certifed Fresh" 82%. Regardless, it's unclear whether Dorff has an issue with superhero movies in general or if this Phase 4 release was just a good example of a recent CGI-heavy blockbuster that he wants nothing to do with as he moves forward in his career.

Despite the brief time he spent in the Marvel Universe, chances are Dorff won't be looking to return to a big budget franchise like that any time soon, especially after these comments about Black Widow!

Recently saw True Detective S3, and although the three timelines were more confusing that interesting and as such lead to an unsatissfying ending (something Dorff's character even says himself too), Dorff and Ali were consistently great in it.

As for Dorff himself, that's just little too high and mighty of him. Why be embarrassed for the hundreds of people who probably enjoyed putting work into it?

@marvel72 - in my opinion 3 was better than 2 (I really don't remember anything about 2), but indeed 1 is still the best. Hard to top also

Considering it sounds like from interviews that this was almost a passion project for Scarlett Johansson and Kevin Feige, I find it extremely odd and condescending of someone to practically be saying that they’re embarrassed people are doing jobs they enjoy and playing characters they love, just because he’s decided he’s above it all

@MikeyL - I doubt he's paid that close attention to the production. He likely would've said the same about any other Marvel movie that happened to be coming out around this time. It's a general statement rather than a particular dig at Black Widow.
