It's hard to say why Black Widow still doesn't have a movie and despite talk of it happening somewhere down the line, it doesn't have a release date as part of Phase 3. Is Marvel Studios waiting to see how Ghost in the Shell performs for Scarlett Johansson or will it be up to Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel to prove that female-led superhero movies can actually work? Ultimately, time will tell.
Talking to Total Film Magazine, Johansson explains why she thinks "timing" is key to making Black Widow a reality, adding that she's spoken to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige about making it happen. However, both the schedule of the studio and her many commitments complicates things.
"We’re creatively really compatible," Johansson said. "I think we both agree that the character is right for a standalone, it’s just a case of timing at this point for both Marvel and myself. If I did it, I would dedicate myself completely to making it amazing. It would have to be the best version that movie could possibly be. Otherwise, I would never do it." The actress is clearly keen, pointing out that it needs "its own style and its own story" and "there’s a lot of great stuff that you could do with it."
Black Widow will return in Avengers: Infinity War, but her future beyond that remains unclear. Would you like to see Black Widow happen? As always, let us know in the comments section down below.
