And Then There Were Three

And Then There Were Three

Of the final three contenders Marvel has whittled it's list down to, who do I think should wield the shield?

It seems that Marvel has finally spoken. And they say it's pretty much down to three contenders (that's not to say it will definitely be one of them.)

Let's take a look at each and see what he could bring to the role.

Mike Vogel

His facial features are almost exactly what I invision Steve Rogers to look like after years of comic art depicting him as such.

He is a stocky fellow which also lends itself to the role. However, at under 6ft he is relatively short for the role. I don't believe this is a problem that can't be corrected if filmed properly.

He also has the least acting experience on this list and unfortunately I am not familiar with any of it.

Garett Hedlund

Facially he resembles Steve Rogers, but in my opinion there is something missing. He does not have the look of someone who's words would carry much weight with me. I surely wouldn't trust in him enough to follow him in to battle.

Physically he is too thin verging on scrawny. Again this is something that I think could be at least partially corrected with proper filming and wardrobe.

I have seen him in several movies and liked him in each one. I do believe he can pull off the part.

Chris Evans

Again his facial features fit the part.

Physically the man is ripped. He's not huge but ripped along the same lines as Ryan Renolds.

He has the largest resume of hit and miss movies on the list. He has shown ability to play the badass, cocky and funny man. He would have to dig much deeper than he has in the past to pull off Cap. I think he could do it.

In all actuality I could see any one of these three as Captain America. I still am not sure which one I would prefer. So I guess I really can't answer my own question as far as the title of this article goes.

Which one would you choose?

Please no Ackles, Lewis, Worthington or anybody else pimping (although I know it's going to happen.).;)

We are supposedly down to these three, lets discuss them.

didn't the Deadline thing say that they are considering people which INCLUDED Chris Evans. That means that he isn't the only person they are testing. I bet it will be somebody who isn't even on the list or somebody that we know about.

Starsapphire: Good point, and your right, but unfortunately we don't know who the other possibilities are. So I decided to stick with those we know are being considered.

Evans out of the 3 listed...

Jason Lewis.

Mike Vogel!!! i like that guy. i would be happy with Chris Evans also. but that Hedlund guy? no thanks

as for Vogel being too short, i don't think height has much weight in making CBM's. i know people complain about it, but then again, people complain about hair and eye color all the time...like those aren't the easiest things to fix, lol. i don't know, best example: Hugh Jackman makes a great Wolverine, but the guy is really tall. does it affect how the character is played?? no way. (whether you like the movies or not, he is great as wolvie)

But we've never heard of anything excluding Ackles. So until Marvel comes flat out and says it, Jensen Ackles is still in the runing. Haven't heard of anything about McPartlin being out either. But out of those three, i'd pick Vogel. Evans second and Hedlund as Bucky/Winter Soldier. He's just a stellar bad guy in death sentence!!!

Mike Vogel.

height isnt a big thing, especially when you consider RDJ is 5'8 and a full 3 inches shorter than Vogel. Edward Norton is a full 1 inch taller and the guy who needs to be the tallest member of the Avengers Hemsworth is 6'3" and is taller than all of them. with height it works well and it isn't like Vogel is looking eye to eye with Verne Troyer, he is average height.

Shaman: There are three names that were rumored that have not officially been shot down...Ackles, Mcpartlin and Pine. I could easily imagine any one of those three waiting in the wings for any number of reasons.

Scheduling adjustments..
Money negotiations......
Pure impact, after all these other rumors and speculation.

Too true Hawks! Oh that's right, Pine also wasn't shot down yet. I'd say that gives us six pretty damn good contenders ;))

So glad Krazinsky's out of it! These six can fit the role. But the only one standing out a bit is Hedlund cause of his youthfull face, voice and presence. I'd love to see him be Winter Soldier in a sequel to Cap! But if all else fails, i wouldn't bitch if he got to be Cap.

STOOPUDR - 3/10/2010, 8:14 AM
Why not just cast Valley (or any other qualified older actor), and ret-con in that the super soldier serum aged him. It would explain his more commanding presence as Cap, and could be explained as it "matured' him into a leader. No matter how good the actor is, nobody is going to follow a kid. It would also allow you to use a younger scrawny kid as pre-super soldier and a different actor as Cap. The transformation should be that dramatic.

It could also be part of the soldier out of his time story in the Avengers. A 20 something soldier who looks 30's to 40's, but is actually in his 80's. Could lead to some great dialog with Stark in Avengers.

Just an idea. I always saw Cap as an older guy than any of the finalists. That being said, the best choice from the current list is still Ackles (I have been reading for a long time - sorry to disagree with LEE).
Hawksblueyes
Hawksblueyes - 3/10/2010, 8:21 AM
STOOPUDR: That's not a bad idea, and it would work if this movie were a one shot deal. The problem however lies in the fact that Marvel wants sequels, possibly quite a few over the period of many years.

Valley will not look as good of a fit for a physically able and active Captain America in 5 to 10 years. He won't work in the role.

I'm just thrilled that Shrek is out of the running.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind any one of these guys taking the part. Evans is not a major star, but has the deepest resume. The other two have a great look that would work very well.

As for Hedlund being scrawny, he is young ad would be able to add mass very easily and quickly without a problem.

Did I mention that I'm glad Krasinski is out of the running...because I am.
punkazzINC
punkazzINC - 3/10/2010, 11:35 AM
Well, I like Chris Evans more than the other two. I know everyone likes to cite that Hedlund was in Troy, but it was more of a choice to play up exactly how Badass Brad Pitt was, that's why in most rom coms there's a fat best friend. It just makes the lead seem more appealing. Hedlund may make a good Bucky though. An Ultimates Bucky, not the original.

PS- Krasinski is out of the running. Enough with the bashing. It's tired and altogether lame at this point.

Gotbatman- You could stick Zeus' beard on Hedlund and he still wouldn't look like a man to me.

ecksmanfan- DIDDO :))

who hoenstly even cares anymore. if its down to these guys after THIS long how different can they possibly be from one another.

i'd have to watch their audittion tapes at this point.

I think I'd take Evans out of the three, with Hedlund at a relatively close second. Evans proved to me that he is far more than just the cocky, wise cracker type in Sunshine, and not once did I see Johnny Storm. I saw Mace. He's got a butt load of charisma, a solid jaw line, very well toned physique, and the talent.

Vogel just does nothing for me.
Makiveli21
Makiveli21 - 3/10/2010, 12:47 PM
i cant get past chris evens being the perfect johnny storm, how can he be the perfect cap too? to stoopudrs point, ive always thought of cap as an 80 year old in a 20 year olds body. the super soldier serum keeps him looking forever young. and i think having an 80 year old, 20 year young looking cap talking to mid 30s but getting old looking tony stark would be a great scene.

Hedlund, obviously.

i kinda want Ben McKinsey to be Cap. He's commanding enough

@ManofIron- I agree. I think he'd do a decent job as well.
punkazzINC

@Makiveli21 - So when you look at Mickey Rourke do you still see Marv from Sin City? When you see Terrence Stamp do you see Zod, Stick, or Bernadette? Sorry, but it just seems to be a funny way of looking at actors. I think you can judge an actor's ABILITY on past performances, but not his CHARACTER.

PS- Neil Patrick Harris for Cap! ;D
Shaman
Shaman - 3/10/2010, 1:39 PM
When i look at Evans, I see Wally West.

Have you guys ever googled "Ben McKinsey"??? Cause it didn't do much for me. He just doesn't show up.

Like, literally not show up or you don't like him as Cap? Here you go:
ben mckenzie Pictures, Images and Photos

He spelled his name wrong. It's Ben McKenzie. He was on The O.C. while it was on. He's now on Southland, which is pretty good show. It requires some emotion, which is rare for a show now days.

Hawksblueyes - 3/10/2010, 2:07 PM
ecks: I couldn't get one single picture of him to come up. Got a bunch of different Bens.
WingPow
WingPow - 3/10/2010, 2:12 PM
If Vogel were at least 2 inches taller, but he is 4 inches shoter than the actual character of Captain America. I can't swallow that.

My vote is Hedlund. Yes, he is thin, but these days actors can bulk up FAST. He's a budding star in the making, has acting skill and generally looks and sounds the part.

No way on Evans. He's already Human Torch. This would be a bad choice.

chris evans would just fine at this role , the guy can act , put on some muscle and got Captain America !!
vogel look's like a good steve roger's , but dont know too much about him ( i think alot of people dont know much about him )
I'll Take Evans out of all of these and be happy !!
McLovin
McLovin - 3/10/2010, 2:28 PM
I believe Ben McKenzie is already up for the role of Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. Or at least he should be since he is like 4 feet tall. No way he could play Cap. Not unless he is on stilts the entire time.
ecksmanfan
ecksmanfan - 3/10/2010, 2:30 PM
@McLovin- He's 5'9". Not too small...not huge either.

Hedlund can put the weight/muscle on for this role:

Scarface

Evans all the way he was great as the torch and fox don,t seem they know what to do with f4 franchise.
So if Evans is smart he,ll drop fox and sign with Marvel and become Cap
DaenerysTargaryen
DaenerysTargaryen - 3/10/2010, 5:23 PM
Any of the three would be good. I know Vogel might not have the height, but they made Robert Dawnye JR seem 6'0 and he's freakin 5'8. Hedlund would be good too but I have a feeling he might be busy. I'm ok with Evans.
DCMarvelFreshman
DCMarvelFreshman - 3/10/2010, 5:50 PM
For some reason Garrett, doesn't seem big enough to me for Avengers, though I know the Captain America film should stand alone.

And Vogel, like Hawk, I'm not familiar with his work either. He has the look, and I could easily see his face alongside Robert Downey Jr, and the other cast. If only he was naturally tall.

Readin THIS, should let you know that I think Chris Evans would be the perfect Cap.

BTW, Nice points their Hawk. At least you can admit that you don't know which would be better.
