Can Captain America 2 handle a July 4th open instead?

Disney has recently cleared space in it's release schedule leaving the whopping 7/4 weekend open. Why not move Cap 2 there?

Scott Mendelson over at Forbes.com raises a good question. Why not move the Captain America: The Winter Soldier open back a few months to July 4th weekend, 2014? Disney's "Maleficent", starring Angelina Jolie, has been moved from that weekend, leaving only a few low-profile comedies. Captain America 2 is chock full of acting talent, directorial skill and dedication, and potential. Could it not plant the stake in the most patriotic weekend on the American Calendar, for effect? Could you stand the wait? Is it too risky? Read the Forbes.com article and comment below. Personally, I think it could do well there, even with Fast 7 opening a week later. As well as this film is trending, Disney may need to take the kid gloves off and let it fly.

Umm......no. Leave it April, that's the month of my birthday. And keep it away from that stupid car chase franchise.

It might be that little boost this film needs to give Cap the huge platform he deserves. This is going to be a great one.

No. Movies that come out during the holiday weekend or on the holiday never make a huge opening..

MrCBM--Ever heard of Independence Day (+800 Mil)? How about Men in Black (+500 Mil)? Men in Black 2 (+400 Mil)? Tansformers 3( +1.1 BIL)? Spider Man 2 (+750 Mil)? Transformers (+700 Mil)? Hancock (+600 Mil)? Even Despicable Me 2-still rakin' in (+850 Mil)?

Not trying to be a jerk, but that statement simply isn't true. A good movie can really capitalize on the July 4th holiday. Especially a patriotic one.

I mean, it's only smart to take it out of the relatively action-light Spring and put it smack dab between Transformers 4 and Fast and Furious 7, right?

And well, yeah, four months away from "Guardians" would make it a GOOD film to launch a new trailer with, but a month away would be EVEN BETTER, amiright?

I'd rather see it sooner than later
