In Avengers: Endgame's closing moments, the elderly Steve Rogers (who had spent decades in the past after finally getting his happy ending with Peggy Carter) gave his shield, and the Captain America mantle, to Sam Wilson.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier showed the hero struggling with that burden, though he'd later realise he was the right person to pick up where Steve left off. We only got a glimpse of what that will mean for the MCU during the finale, but Captain America: New World Order is going to fully put the spotlight on the MCU's newest Star Spangled Avenger.
Cameras have literally just started rolling on the movie and, thanks to Just Jared, we have a first look at Anthony Mackie on set as Sam.
These shots, taken in Atlanta, Georgia, don't reveal much but this hopefully means we'll get to see a lot more from the movie in the weeks and months ahead. Rumour has it Captain America is getting a new costume, and while seeing that in set photos for the first time wouldn't be ideal, it would give us all some exciting new MCU content to discuss!
It's recently been reported that some of Captain America: New World Order will also be shot in Washington D.C., no huge shock when Harrison Ford is playing President Thaddeus Ross.
Remember, he's no fan of the "heroes" who defied the Sokovia Accords, and he probably won't want Sam serving as Captain America in place of John Walker. Throw The Leader into the mix, however, and we can't help but wonder whether we'll see the President transform into Red Hulk in order to take matters into his own hands.
Captain America: New World Order is set to be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.
