Kevin Feige Confirms Harrison Ford Is Playing PRESIDENT Ross In CAPTAIN AMERICA: NEW WORLD ORDER

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has confirmed rumours that Harrison Ford's General "Thunderbolt" Ross is the U.S. President in Captain America: New World Order, teasing his dynamic with Sam Wilson.

Captain America: New World Order looks set to be a very busy movie. The Incredible Hulk's Samuel Sterns will return as The Leader, while characters like Sabra, Isaiah Bradley, and Joaquin Torres (the new Falcon) are all expected to factor into the story.

The biggest addition to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier follow-up is, of course, Indiana Jones and Star Wars icon Harrison Ford as General "Thunderbolt" Ross. Replacing the late William Hurt, the hope is that we'll see the antagonist transform into Red Hulk, but the truth is he might be busy with other things...like running the country!

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige confirmed rumours that Ross will be the U.S. President when we next see him.

"I'm sure anyone you've ever talked with about Harrison Ford says this, but it's unbelievable that we get to meet and talk with him and that he's embracing this role. He's tireless with the amount of work that he does," he says. "This is certainly a big part for Thaddeus Ross. He's the president of the United States in the film."

"And with Harrison, you think about Air Force One, and you think about some of his confrontations with the president in Clear and Present Danger. There's a dynamic between President Ross and Sam Wilson. They have a history together, but in this film, we'll be seeing the dynamic between Captain America and the president of the United States in a way that is just incredible."

"This has been a dream for years, ever since Jon Favreau cast Harrison Ford in Cowboys and Aliens," Feige continues. "I was always very jealous of that, so to have him finally in the MCU is just incredible. It's like, I can cross that off the wishlist."

Ross is no fan of the "heroes" who defied the Sokovia Accords, and he probably won't want Sam Wilson serving as Captain America in place of John Walker. As Feige suggests, exploring that dynamic should be a delight, and it might just be what prompts the President to Hulk out and forcibly take that shield back. We'll see.

Captain America: New World Order is set to be released on May 3, 2024.

Feige probably fan-boyed and melted like butter when he saw Ford come into the Marvel office.

@xHollywoodx - Ford probably saw dollar signs when Feige welcomed him to the marvel family.

@EZBeast - Feige probably unlocked the Marvel Money Vault so that they could both roll around like Scrooge Mcduck.

@TheWalkingCuban - I would think that a president Ross would more closely imitate Eisenhower.

Trump imitations are lazy and boring these days and I couldn't imagine a Biden imitation being relevant. Ross is a military man turned President. I could maybe see some parallel's to GW Bush's War on Terrorism, which Ross has already emulated back in Civil War in a way. The with us or against us and everybody has to register pieces. I just hope he plays Ross. No parallel to any US presidents. Just Ross.

@mountainmam @Matador - That's just his natural state at this point. Shitting his pants is when he gets angry. Though I don't think that's his anger either.

@ScaryTerry - Patton is another good reference, I was just trying to compare to US presidents, and Eisenhower was the last big military guy in the role.

Great job Scary Terry.

@ScaryTerry - I think that's why I made the George Bush "you're with us or with the terrorists" reference. Ross seems more along those lines.

Still think they could've just made the character Robert Maverick instead, but maybe the movie has a really good reason for it being Ross.

Anyway, I guess with Ross being president in New World Order, it doesn't bode well for POTUS in Secret Invasion.

I was skeptical about the leak of him being President. But in a world where half the pop disappears, I can see the American survivors electing a strong military person to keep them safe. It actually makes sense. Ross has done no wrong by the American people. Hr couldnt contain the Hulk, but he actually is the one who got half the Avengers to sign the accords

That's a major win worth campaigning around. Of course the world doesn't realize the accords is why Zemo won, and why the Black Order was successful in their initial attack, leading to Thanos victory and the blip

GhostDog - 2/15/2023, 10:50 AM
@Vigor - Yea he is basically a guy who has everything it takes to govern in a world like the MCU. Top military general who hunted a super powered being for yeas and got half a team of superheroes to sign into oversight. He's got the balls to lead in a world where literally anything can happen.

His campaign was probably an easy slam dunk.

Matador
Matador - 2/15/2023, 11:15 AM
@mountainman - I agree normally he was always a General and hated Hulk cause of how powerful he was and Ross felt he lacked that power. When they offered him that same power it was easy for him to say yes. But this was a long journey of him chasing the Hulk.

In the MCU that was kind of lacking Hulk super smart now hardly made an impact in that universe and Ross is President his pretty much top dog should care less about the Hulk.

Just my opinion not sure where there taking the story though; but as President does he need to get his hands dirty now?
mountainman
mountainman - 2/15/2023, 1:04 PM
@Matador - Ross and Hulk have no on-screen interactions since 2008. Ross does have an anti rogue super hero bent from Civil War though. And that could be interesting for a president to possess.

I just don't see the story reason why he'd become red hulk other than to serve the fanbase and provide a CGI smasher.
Matador
Matador - 2/15/2023, 2:12 PM
@mountainman - Yup exactly why I question the reason to even become Rulk.
tRuckRogers46A
tRuckRogers46A - 2/15/2023, 3:17 PM
@mountainman - I'm still holding out hope that he won't ever be Red Hulk and it'll be Everett Ross who'll eventually rouge out.
Everett has more ties to Val deFontaine and therefore the Thunderbolts and he's had interactions with more characters than Thaddeus has on screen.
Marvel could even reveal that Everett is Thad's son.

I hope they do a 15 years anniversary photo and cast the net wider with some of the cast members - especially the more 'seasoned' actors.

Would love to see Hopkins, Redford, Close, Ford, Whitaker, Benning and Tommy Lee Jones all hanging out together.
