Captain America: The Winter Soldier "The Honour Student in Iowa"

Captain America: The Winter Soldier "The Honour Student in Iowa"

I share my theory on who could possibly be the Iowa honour student threat to HYDRA made mention by Sitwell.

So, the Sitwell interrogation. So far more famously known for acknowledging the existence of Doctor Strange. But he also made mention of "an honour student in Iowa" who is a threat to HYDRA. Who is this student?

Well, after a little digging I have figured out who it is.

It's Nomad.

Jack Munroe, the only character from Iowa in the Marvel universe with any relation to Captain America. The only other character from Iowa is a Skrull.

But what threat would he pose to HYDRA? Well, he’s taken a different type of the super soldier serum (thanks to Red Skull) and also has relations to Grand Director. Also known as William Burnside, who later legally changed his name to “Steven Rogers”, is a character already made mention by the Russo brothers who have said they would like to use him in Captain America 3 as a possible villain.

Nomad and Grand Director were also Bucky and Captain America, respectively, during the 50’s to keep Captain America’s name going long after WWII had ended.

My guess to why HYDRA are interested in, supposedly, Jack Munroe is because of his recreation with William of the super soldier serum and HYDRA want a hold of this serum.

So as well as making mention of Doctor Strange we get mention of Nomad and a possible story emerging already for Captain America 3. I'm sure you can put the pieces together to see what could happen.

Even though he's from Tucson, I think Amadeus Cho is a better fit.

I thought it was just a line Sitwell said, but guess I'm wrong. I still have no idea who this guy is. But I will give it a look. Great find.

He got killed in the Winter Soldier comic so I would totally make sense

it's just a throwaway line, making it clear that even the seemingly random, benign honor student, who isn't even as significant as Stephen Strange, can be construed as a threat by this algorithm. Basically, it's not just super heroes this thing is targeting, not just the Bruce Banners and the Tony Starks, but also regular people like...the people in this very audience!

I really don't want this for Cap 3

Yeah.....ummmmm......no, this is just incredibly stupid, a case of a fanboy looking for an Easter Egg where one doesn't exist. The algorithm looks at, among other things, SAT scores, so there was probably some valedictorian of a high school in Iowa who had very high scores, and whose personality showed a resistance to being corrupted by Hydra. That's it. And it was a current valedictorian, not someone injected with serum years earlier. Plus, they were gonna kill himl basically by remote. If they wanted to get hold of his blood for the serum, they would capture him, not kill him. So no, this theory just plain sucks. Try again. Or, better yet, don't try again.

Like others have said, it was just a throw away line, lik Lhornbk said.

It was to show that the algorithm is capable of finding threats in ANYONE, from people as dangerous as Iron Man and Stephen Strange, all the way down to potential threats, like a high school student in some podunk town in Iowa.

It was to show the range of the algorithm.

This reminds me of when so many people SWORE they saw Thor's face in the clouds, or Mjolnir falling to earth in the Incredible Hulk.

Not everything is an easter egg

My favorite easter egg was the high school valedictorian. The only character in the Marvel comicverse to have that role was Kitty Pride, nice way to cross the rights barrier without breaking it

But I think I saw Jimmy Hoffa. DID ANYBODY ELSE SEE JIMMY HOFFA???

@ Devlin

um...no?

Kitty Pryde was enrolled at the Xavier Institute when she was 13. She was there all the way up until she was old enough to go to college. She was only in college for a short time after Colossus died, then came back and rejoined the X-Men.

She wasn't the valedictorian of high school or college. So i'm not sure where you got that from.

My bad man! I did a little research and you were right. Looks like she was valedictorian. I stand corrected, kind sir.

new characters they can add in cap 3. Baron Zemo, US Agent. That's it. Maybe MODOK if they really do a good job on him.

I had a hard time explaining the difference between MODOK and Arnim Zola to my non-comic buddies.

Zola is more like a brain uploaded to a computer that performs evil experiments and MODOK is a freaky big head with cybernetic enhancements made for killing.

How did I go?

@ devlin Katherine Anne "Kitty" Pryde was born in Deerfield, Illinois. So she wasn't a valedictorian in Iowa City, she is still an awesome character though

Also I need to correct a statement in the article. Nomad isn't the only character from Iowa associated with Captain America. The character known as Clint Barton aka Hawkeye who is from the Hawkeye State, Waverly, Iowa to be precise is also associated with Captain America.
