Another website has jumped on the Captain America rumored-casting bandwagon. Today, CinemaSpy disclosed that they received an email from a source claiming to be well-connected within the Paramount hierarchy. The email states:
Anyway, just thought you guys might like to know that Paramount and Marvel are pretty close to closing a deal on casting Steve Rogers/Captain America and fans might be excited to learn that the short list includes somebody a lot of fans speculated about, Chris Pine. From what I'm hearing, he's the frontrunner right now, though that could change. Can't tell you who the other couple of choices are, cause that'll work against me for reasons I don't want to get into.
Anyway, hope this is helpful, feel free to do what you want with it.
The guys (and gals) over at CinemaSpy are taking this intel with more than a few grains of salt. They've even said their first thoughts over getting this information were A)
"Why are you telling anyone this?" & B)
"Why are you telling us this?"
While they were hesitant to post this information, they have pointed out a few things that would make Pine fit the role. There's a big window in Pine's film schedule until 2012, he is of the right age and look (granted, someone weightlifting) and he has enough solid film experience to merit this kind of role.
CinemaSpy has asked their readers to sound off whether they believe this news or not. Since CBM.com has a world-renown Bullsh!t Meter that always seems to be pinging around these articles, why don't we lend them a hand:
