The King of all monsters was expected to crash into theaters with a soft opening.  Godzilla was estimated to make 60 million this week, however even Hollywood couldnt anticipate the star power of Godzilla.  Godzila opend on Friday to 38.5 million dollars, dropping the initial estimate and raising the King of monsters to 98 million.  The new estimate would have surpassed Captain America 2 debut by 3 million.  The new estimates, had Warner Brothers proclaiming Godzilla being the dominant over the 2014 openings.

Deadline.com is reporting that Godzilla will debut to the amount of 93.2 million dollars. A 17 percent drop from Friday to Saturday. So for now Captain America 2 is still the the reigning champion for 2014.  With the opening of X-men next week will determine which marvel cbm will be name victor for the year of 2014 cbm opening.

Either way as a comic book fan, we all win.  This is my first article and would welcome the feedback.

X-Men: Days of Future Past will probably surpass it. Let us see on the long run.

Yeah some people were dissapointed but the movie is good. Some expected 2 hours of Godzilla fighting but from the beggining they said it would be like the first Godzilla were he shows up for 10-15 minutes.

At least in this one he has like 20 minutes of screen time and there are 2 more MUTOS

@Bekss

People like you completely do not understand this at all. Nobody expected Godzilla on screen for 2 hours. What we did expect were 2-3 onscreen fights and entertaining scenes when Godzilla was not there. I felt the film failed to deliver on both fronts.

The human characters were NOT interesting. Seriously, would anyone cite Aaron Taylor Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen's relationship as a highlight of the film?

Then I wasn't talking about you. I've seen a lot of people that thought Godzilla would be fighting all the movie.
that doesn't mean everyone was.

That's still a pretty great opening, specially because it shows that they need a new model to track how these movies will preform.

The predictions are almost always right, I don't think a surprise like this would make them change anything

Well you still have to wait for Guardians as well. Guardians can really be the hardest hitting comic book movie of the year. Only time will tell but everyone already knows who I'm riding for...

cap 2 is the shit. i am really interested to see how big the dive will be in ticket sales next week for godzilla after people realize its a movie about people and not the monster.

I still gotta see Godzilla though. I'm supporting that film regardless.

My guess is that X Men will probably make more than Cap but we'll see. I really enjoyed Godzilla, most people that I know that I saw it thought it was good too.

Godzilla Had no chance against Marvel Heroes or TMNT or Transformers. Sorry its the truth.

And these results aren't bad at all. If you keep comparing it to Cap's record of course you'll see the difference but for a film standing on it's own it's not too bad.

surprised no one has made an article yet but cap has passed 700 million worldwide

X-Men and Guardians are ensemble movies on a whole different level to the likes of Cap, Godzilla and TASM 2. X-Men will probably surpass Cap, then we'll get to see the true Battle of the summer blockbusters: DoFP vs Transformers vs Guardians. Im rooting for Guardians because regardless of how much DoFP gets at the box office we are still going to get Apocalypse, and I'm 100% fine with that.

It's always something with the fans on this site, I saw godzilla on the weekend and it was a brilliant film, just when you thought cgi couldn't get any better it did and cranston put the same epic performance into his character as he did to walter white. I personally thought that there was a lot of godzilla and the fight scenes were brilliant but I do ask the question of just how fan boys expect a director to come from the perspective of a giant groaning lizard as opposed to the people, we have to remember that godzilla is effectively a natural disaster, I mean did you criticise the perfect storm for not using the storms perspective
