SECRET INVASION: Kevin Feige Teases Return Of The Skrulls & The Story's "Political Paranoia Aspect"

Kevin Feige has already touched on how the upcoming Secret Invasion Disney+ series will differ from the source material, and the Marvel chief has now teased the return of the Skrulls the show's main focus.

Secret Invasion was announced during the recent Disney Investors Day along with several other planned Disney+ shows, but the small screen adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis' acclaimed comic run is arguably the most highly-anticipated of the bunch.

Captain Marvel 2 stars Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Ben Mendelsohn (Talos) will return for the series, which will adapt - on a much smaller scale - the story of the Skrull invasion of Earth.

Kevin Feige has already explained how the show will differ from the comics (there won't be nearly as many characters, for a start), and the Marvel Studios chief has now teased the return of the shape-shifting aliens introduced in Captain Marvel 2, along with the "political paranoia aspect" of the story.

“I mean, we're interested in the political paranoia aspect of Secret Invasion and really showcasing the stars with Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn, two amazing actors that you want to have in any series, and we're very lucky to have them for that. That's the sort of primary focus of that and, of course, it will tie into other things and the Skrulls in ways you haven't seen before, but yes, anything could be anything. Wise words… But we wanted to do that as a series because it would allow us to do something different than we've done before.”

Of course, Feige is referencing the fact that the Skrulls can change form and impersonate anyone they choose, which means some established MCU characters might well be revealed as sleeper agents.

How do you guys feel about such a major Marvel event playing out on the small screen? Do you think any beloved heroes will turn out to be Skrulls? Drop us a comment down below.

This really should have been something built up over an entire phase as an Avengers movie. Like really this is a tv show, what heroes are gonna show up. Doubt many of the actual avengers. like is this going to be the disney plus version of Defenders

But Captain Marvel ruined the Skrulls by making them good! How can this be?

The more Talos the better.

As opposed to CW, Secret Invasion just...wasn't "built" for the MCU.

Reckon we'll get bits and pieces of it, but all in all, it will be something different, we'll see...

Same thing if they were to adapt Fear Itself, i don't even like those storylines that much tbh.

But Siege/Utopia on the other hand...ehehe, fingers crossed!

@Doomsday8888 - Secret Invasion would completely work in a pre-Snap MCU. (Imagine all of the recriminations and backstabbing, and then finding out one of the Avengers who signed was actually a skrull, or whatever).

Post-Snap, though, I'm less sure. It offers the chance to have cameos of the big actors without worrying about the logistics of their characters. Even now, we could see ScarJo, RDJ, or Evans pop up to give the audience a thrill. But it definitely can't work the same as the comic story did.

@Spock0Clock - Good thoughts. I'm assuming that you already know that Kevin has stated (many years ago) that they are less concerned about making things work like the comics did and more concerned about making it work as their own films (and now shows).

@Doomsday8888 - IMO, Civil War was the more difficult adaptation. The original story is built on the premise of a large superhero population. Everything from the Avengers to the New Warriors. Having that many heroes running around without accountability is pretty different from one superhero team that has collateral damage. I loved Civil War in both forms, but it's certainly not inherently "built" for the MCU.

Secret Invasion presents a similar challenge of scope. However the basic concept of aliens impersonating people are part of a larger plan is pretty easily adaptable. My main concern is that it might feel a bit too similar to the Hydra reveal.

The Skrulls took the top spot from the Mandarin on the MCU's list of wasted villain potential.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Thats the thing that people don't seem to understand. We have only seen a fraction of their race. There are others out there and just because the ones we met in Captain Marvel were good doesn't mean the others are too. Im pretty sure they have radical factions out there as well.
