The wall-crawler has just set a record for most Marvel's valuable cover. The cover of Amazing Spider-Man #100 sold at Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas for an astounding price of $400,000.

This is a record for a Marvel cover from the Silver or Bronze Age of comics.

The cover was drawn by John Romita Sr and Frank Giacoia. Take a look at the very expensive cover below:

Romita is one of the most iconic artists to work on Spider-Man, taking over after the departure of Steve Ditko.

“This cover was done during the peak period of John Romita, Sr’s artwork, at a time when Spider-Man’s popularity was extremely high,” said Heritage Auctions’ senior vice president Ed Jaster.

Amazing Spider-Man #100 is a villain-filled story that has Peter Parker struggling to balance his normal life and his responsibilities as Spider-Man. The issue famously ends with the reveal that Peter has grown four extra arms, resembling an actual spider-man.

Jazzy John Romita was so good that his son still gets by on nepotism alone.

@blackandyellow - No love for JR JR? I think his work on Kick-Ass is good but don’t love his work on Superman recently

@JourneyIntoMystery - I'm not a fan, but I don't hate his style as much as I hate Mike Allred's, Javier Pulido's, or Tim Sale's.

@JourneyIntoMystery - JRJR has some of the most iconic covers of the 80's and 90's but somewhere around the mid 00's he had a noticeable change of style. For some reason, it comes off like a kid's drawing and every character looks the same. It was fine on Kick-Ass but everything else in Marvel and DC he touches just looks sloppy.

@blackandyellow - fair enough. I’m torn on Tim Sale, I don’t get why he draws batman’s Face the way he does

@KaneVonDoom - yeah I’ll agree he’s definitely past his prime, maybe he’s gotten lazy. But I do love his older work.

And to think that JR Sr. doesn't get a penny for this $400K sale.

Look at that gorgeous artwork!!

The old school methods are so primitive now, but look at this thing!!
You can see the different tones from this piece literally being crafted... liquid paper (white-out) and all.

... just... GORGEOUS!

@SKetCH - Absolutely. JR Sr. has one of the most recognizable styles in all of comic book art-dom. There's no mistaking his artwork for anyone else's. I've sat here the last several minutes staring at that cover -- so clean and sleek and gorgeous. Although, he did put Kingpin's head on there twice LOL

Gotta love that classic John Romita Snr. style. He did most of my childhood's favorite Spiderman comics.

Nice

Speaking of, I just read ASM marvel legacy stuff

You know, for a moment I felt "maybe Slott isn't that bad of a writer but moreso Marvel's direction with Spider-Man is just plain bad because they refuse him to be with MJ"

Then I read Slott's newer work. I hated Superior. Hated billionaire Peter. So maybe this will be better.

In the first 3ish issues, Mockingbird and Peter hook up (which I kind of like and would have preferred seeing some actually relationship out of them) then basically break up. Then a few issues of Venom BS. Then we see MJ in 1 issue and her and Peter hook back up at the final 2 pages after her being in it just briefly.

Does Slott understand relationships?

It's interesting - the difference between then and now - There are four different people smoking on this one cover. Wow - how times have changed...

"The wall-crawler has just set a record for most Marvel's valuable cover."

Not true. Most valuable for that era. A Todd McFarlane Amazing Spidey cover (issue #328) sold for $657,250 nearly six years ago.
