COMICS: Party Like It’s 1992 In The WARZONES! With X-Men ’92 #1; SECRET WARS Tie-In

Everyone’s favourite version of the X-Men are back! That’s right, this June, the most radical team of mutants ever assembled make their triumphant return to the world of comics in X-Men 92 #1! Debuting as a Marvel Infinite Comic series in May, hit the jump for artwork and details...

X-Men ’92 is optimized specifically for mobile devices, pushing the boundaries of comic storytelling to new heights!

"Toys. TV. Arcade games. Trading Cards. The X-Men were everywhere that year,” exclaims series co-writer Chad Bowers. “Kids who didn't even care that comics existed were suddenly into the X-Men, and asking me questions about Gambit at recess. That was nuts and it blew my preadolescent mind, but it was also completely awesome! It's a period that really resonated with and inspired countless fans, and X-Men '92 is going to remind you why you were totally obsessed with it!"

Marvel newcomers Chris Sims & Chad Bowers join artist Scott Koblish (Deadpool) to take you back to the days of big guns, big pouches, and big action! Baron Kelly, ruler of the Westchester domain has called upon the Clear Mountain Project and it’s mysterious new director to deal with the mutant menace – by any means necessary! Can the X-Men put a stop to the threat of “mutant rehabilitation”? And just what are “Free Range Sentinels’? Find out in X-Men ’92 this May!

Available right at your fingertips, these new Infinite Comics will be available for purchase this May on the Marvel Comics app (for iPhone®, iPad®, iPod Touch® & AndroidTM devices) and online in the Marvel Digital Comics Shop!

Can anyone fill me in with what's happening with Secret Wars? We're revisiting a lot of past events and timelines and I don't really know why

Great stuff! I loved the X-Men comics in the 90's.

I can't believe they have my boy Gambit looking like this now:

What a terrible outfit... smh.

Best x men run was the claremont run of the early yo mid 80s and the 2 000 ish Morrison run... and probably mid 90's with all the wolverine-magneto fun and age of apocalypse.

I don't recall '92 being a momentus year for x-men but I popped my teenage cherry that year so i loved it for selfish sloppy reasons.

@mgeoff

The other guy has the same logo on his chest too. Probably means that they are apart of a specific unit or something... Still a gay uniform.

I think its some sort of security firm that they work for in X-Factor now.

We going to be looking back at this era and think WTF?

I remember setting my alarm for getting up at 0530 to watch Xmen on TV - that show rocked. Wonder why I didnt record it /...Maybe DVRs werent invented yet?

@TheGreenRanger
that's gambits uniform from the all new x-factor series, in the series x-factor is owned by a private corporation called "serval industries" and the cat is the company's logo, and gambit was pretty awesome in it!!

Sorry, but I was collecting comics in the late '70s and early '80s. The '92 X-Men don't hold a candle to the Dark Phoenix Saga, Days of Future Past, etc.

X-Factor became a corporate owned superhero team courtesy of Serval Industries:

That's why they all have that serval logo on their suits.

The only cool thing about the new X-Factor run was the marketing:

Early 90's Xmen were great because of the cartoon but early 80's Xmen was the shit for comics.

Cyclops was the best in the early 90's though!

And no one drew the Xmen better than Jim Lee.

The 90s were the dark ages of comics, especially for the X-Men. Let's just pretend those stories and costumes never happened.

But I do like Chris Sims' stuff on Comics Alliance. It's funny that he's writing this series since he did a whole series talking about how shitty the cartoon was.

The 90s is when the X-Men caught fire, due to the animated show. Plus Jim Lee was at his best. The costumes of the X-Men in the 90s were at their best then too.Love the 70s and 80s X-men also, my uncle had vast collection.

As for Secret Wars:

I grew up with this version of X-Men. The magic just isn't there without Jim Lee's art.

I miss the 80's and 90's for comics, especially Marvel's comics.
The stories were a lot simpler, yet more powerful due to that refinement.
You didn't have to read through 36 comics just to know what happened in a given month for one story-arc.
The only gimmicks were metallic ink and holograms on covers.

Early to mid 90s X-Men is decent and fun. Onslaught saga is where it goes off the rails. 96-00 bad.
