Could someone please explain to me what this difference is between this comic and the regular Justice League comic? Is it an alternate universe or does in not matter anymore because of convergence?

@TheDpool

Of course.
I was there when Marvel created the alternate universe known as the New Universe.
It lasted for a bit, too. Then lack of sales killed it. Star-Brand is the only good thing to survive.
I was there when Marvel created the alternate universe known as MC2 (Marvel Comics 2). It lasted for a bit, too. Then lack of sales killed it. Nothing was good so nothing survived.
I was there when Marvel created the alternate universe known as Marvel 2099. It lasted for a bit - then lack of sales killed it as well. Spidey 2099 is interesting as most Spider-Man properties are.
And I was certainly there when they launched ultimate Spidey – the best thing to come out of THAT alternate universe. It lasted for a bit longer. But then lack of sales killed it.
Just like all the other alternate universes.
Nothing (under Marvel) has the staying power of the good ol' 616. But it's a lesson they keep forgetting.
I can wait.

@WinterSoldier22

They both have screwed with the statis quo so much it's hard to care. Between mega-universe changing crossover events that SEEM to happen every other month and DC reboots and/or whatever it is that Marvel's doing right now – call it Linear Reassignment – it's real hard to invest oneself in the events of their lives when you know you'll blink and it will all change again.
KrazyForKomix
KrazyForKomix - 6/16/2015, 8:40 AM
Right now (and for a while) both companies have been in the business of Continuity Micro-Management. I don't care what the reasons are. Yes, DC is trying to find itself from a sales standpoint. And yes, Marvel has pressure from Disney to change everything to support and advertise the movies.
I don't care what the reasons are.
You don't build a fan base by inventing your fourth or fifth story involving a universal crisis, so that all writers and artists become attendance keepers to make sure all characters have shown up for the battle of the month.

When the last two issues of his previous series come out I'll consider picking this up. We're going on 7 months since issue 4 at this point. But I'm sure every issue of this (likely only 6 issue arc) wil all come out on time.

@KrazyForKomix is obviously a youngin who doesn't know his history. Ultimate Universe lifted sales for the entire industry for several years.

Hitch will be late on this book. It's the first issue and he already has to bring in multiple inkers.

ManDeth

Yeah Hitch can draw. And with the aid of PC programs many "artists" can do realism. But hyper realism in comics is ugly as hell. And it is very boring. Comics need to get back to being about fun and less about drawing the seams on a goddamn costume and pores on skin while trying to look like stills from TV and movies mixed writers going into intricate details about superheroes every day lives.

Comics should have it's own niche. Not be a pale imitation of live action where writers and artists are trying to use them as an audition for jobs in live action or trying to show us how real life they can make superheroes.

@KrazyForKomix Have you read what Robert Kirkman or Darwin Cooke have said about the current state of the big 2? They both are 100% correct. If DC Comics stopped trying to be Ultimate Marvel and went back to a more enjoyable style of comics then they would be a true alternative to Marvel. They would offer a very different experience and attract a far greater readership than the minuscule fanbase composed of 12-18 year old boys who masturbate to the word 'dark' and middle aged guys who didn't notice the end of their childhood.

DC could really leave Marvel in the dust if they had the guts to risk pissing off the pissant population of fanboys while pursuing the larger group of young people who make up 70% of the US population of over 320 million people.

DC and Marvel are focused on selling comics to the few while ignoring the many. The gimmicks, deaths and returns, coming outs, events and reboots is DC and Marvel constantly trying to keep the attention of that small, pissant group.

@ Mandeth:

You clearly haven't seen what DC has been doing as of late. The time it took you to write that biased, obsolete commentary, is time you could've taken to research DC's latest output, most of which fits exactly what you've been calling for, but probably won't read anyway.

And DC has always been an alternative to Marvel. People wanna let Marvel evolve, but wanna see DC remain stuck in the 50's. As if that's gonna help DC grow. The reality is, you & complainers like you don't have a clue what will work for DC. You complain about DC appealing to 12-18 year olds, as well as middle aged folk.... So by your logic, DC isn't for you, no matter what type of product they produce. So what does it matter what they do?

It just sounds like you're a DC hater for no reason at all.

Everything is great with all comics published by both houses and all the CBMs are an amazing blessing not to be discussed.
Please read no further.

@crawley
@rabid
Please let me know what you are referring to when you say, "Ultimate Universe lifted sales for the entire industry for several years."
I must be missing something. I'm sure you must have had a different experience where you saw the alternate-ultimate books flying (yes flying compared to the other titles) off the shelves. The place where I shopped only ordered between 8 to 10 copies of it's best selling Ultimate Spidey book - and you could always get one of them a month and a half later. Now, you COULD accuse me of making stuff up, but it's backed up by the sales figures.
During the years marked below, I'm showing you the two highest ranking Ultimate comic books sold that year. For instance, during 2003 Ultimate FF #1 was the third best selling title that year. The next best selling ultimate title during 2003 came in at the nineteenth position. It was Ultimate Six #1

2003 #3 Ultimate Fantastic Four #1 and then #19 Ultimate Six #1
2005 #24 Ultimate Iron Man and then and then #49 Ultimates-2 #2
2007 #36 Ultimates-3 #1 and then #79 Ultimate Spider-Man #104
2008 #12 Ultimate Origins #1 and then #24 Ultimates-3 #2
2010 #92 Ultimate Comics New Ultimates #1 and then #120 Ultimate Comics X #1
2012 #395 Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #6 and then #455 Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #8
2013 #543 Cataclysm Ultimates Last Stand

Now there is NO WAY you can look at these numbers and tell me that the ultimate line was the back bone of the industry . . . EVER.

Now to rabid's point – yes, while I wish it weren't so, the ultimate universe does translate to the big screen without the need for as much imagination, skill, and cleverness is needed for the 616 universe, and therefore is more attractive to producers. Just like it's a lot easier to sell the public on Tony Stark as creator of Ultron, rather than trying to explain how there are more than one brilliant scientists in the MCU capable of such a feat. It fits more readily into the path they've chosen to go down.
