Speaking of gods, I was wondering how offensive it would be to publish "The Bible by MrBlackjack" on here.

I know this isn't completely on topic. But it does deal with the New Gods. I really want to see WB get their act together. Because I could see a New Genesis vs Apokolips live action movie being really great.

As for this I really hope it shows more of the back story of Highfather. He isn't truly a nice person. His agenda he does what he believes is right. Even if it really isn't a nice thing. DC Comics could make so many great stories with the New Gods and Forever People. So it's great to see DC is planning this. I personally think DC & WB needs to start fleshing out their cosmic comic book characters. Because their sitting on a gold mine for potential film franchises. Be it in live action or cartoon form.

So I'm happy to see DC is doing this. I hope the comics sell well so more New God stories will be told. Because I'll be honest I could see them becoming more famous then some of the big famous superheroes. Maybe not the big three or the other big seven. But bigger then some of the other lesser known characters.

I find it hard to care about Green Lantern events when Geoff Johns isn't writing them.

I haven't bought single issues for GL since the Sinestro Corps war ended. Really hoping this is good.

As a matter of fact, this has potential to be one of the best stories told in a long time if done right. Fingers crossed.

Ugh. The New Gods.

I've never, ever cared for the New Gods. I don't get the appeal of them. They're a pantheon of alien superbeings floating around in space who have no connection with any of the heroes on Earth. They're a positive opposite of Darkseid and Apokolips... and that's it. The most they ever contribute to the DCU is deus ex machina back-up in the middle of their huge cosmic battles-- Metron shows up here, Orion there. Other than that, they don't DO anything. They're boring.

I don't like the Asgardians in the Marvel Universe much either, but at least they're based on actual Nordic myths... and they're there as immediate supporting characters for Thor, one of the major characters in their storytelling universe. These guys are just a bunch of random @$$holes Jack Kirby dreamed up, who are, at best, a part of one of Superman's villain's mythologies.

The big problem, of course, is that the New Gods are a pantheon of "deities"... who exist in a world that ALREADY has a brilliant pantheon of modern mythological superbeings in it. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman... these characters are so rooted in myth and the collective unconscious that it makes the "New Gods" look generic by comparison. Worse, they're always written broadly-- because they're "Gods", not relatable people-- so they all come off as cartoon characters. There's nothing to distinguish them as special or interesting.

(The only one who has any kind of depth to him is Orion, due to his unusual parentage and the chip he has on his shoulder because of it, but even that only peeks its head out every once in a while-- usually he's just "that angry douchebag god who wants to blast everything to bits.")

So every time I see a crossover or event tailored around these flat, boring characters, I can't help but cringe. Final Crisis and its prelude, Countdown, were built around the whole New Gods mythology, and they were terrible (though, admittedly, Grant Morrison's descent into pretentious stupidity probably played a huge role in that). This doesn't look that much more promising.

I love Green Lantern, but man, am I glad I stopped reading after Geoff Johns left. Having to sit through a massive crossover like this to get back to the stories I WANT to read is always incredibly tedious.

This looks pretty cool. But I don't like how all the titles sound completely powerless compare to the new gods. Maybe I'm wrong, but i think this war should go to the lanterns pretty easily.

@TheFox

You know what....I hadn't really thought of it that way. But you are right. At the same time they could POSSIBLY shift them into more relatable characters as they haven't been used in the DCU for a while.

I agree as well, I stopped buying single issues when the Sinestro Corps War ended. I'm just now catching up to the stuff after Brightest Day, but I'm glad I didn't buy the single issues. Right now I think the best reads, and suprised to admit it, is the New Guardians and the Red Lanterns series. But that is just my opinion.

Is it me or is this story kind of borrowing from the Infinity Gauntlet.
SAMURAI36

The NG's have been peppered all thru-out the New 52. It's been clear practically from the start, with books like E2, WW, Forever Evil, Villains Month and other stories that the NG's were going to make a big come back.
SAMURAI36
SAMURAI36 - 7/13/2014, 4:17 PM
@ Fox:

Sounds like you are not familiar with the NG's then.

Besides Orion, there's Big Barda and Mr. Miracle, both of which are far more than just deus ex machina characters. All 3 have been members of the JL on past occasions.

However this is the New 52 now, and these characters are being re-invented.
SAMURAI36
SAMURAI36 - 7/13/2014, 4:21 PM
Also, the NG's of New Genesis and Apokalips are not just "floating around in the universe".

They exist outside of the multiverse, and are not bound by the laws of any of the 52 Universes.

I guess when you put 6 rings in a prisim like that it becomes DC's answer to the Cosmic Cube/Infinity Gauntlet, the mother of all boxes (pun intended).
