COMICS: DC's EARTH ONE Line To Return With Reimagined Take On GREEN LANTERN

DC Comics' Earth One graphic novels reimagined the worlds of Batman and Superman in a big way and it's now been revealed that Green Lantern Hal Jordan is the next hero to receive a new origin story...

The Earth One line of graphic novels will expand in 2018 with Green Lantern: Earth One set to hit shelves in March from the creative team of Corinna Bechko, Gabriel Hardman, and Jordan Boyd. The comic will retell Hal Jordan's origin story and this version of the ring-slinger will be an astronaut for Ferris Galactic who begins in the unfulfilling role of an asteroid prospector until he discovers one of the rings of the Green Lantern Corps. It's then he embarks on a mission to rebuild the Green Lantern Corps.

"Approaching this as an Earth One story gives us the opportunity to go back to the core concept of Green Lantern and interpret it through the lens of a modern, grounded sci-fi story while still being true to the Silver Age roots of Hal Jordan," Hardman tells IGN in an interview about the book. "Having storyboarded Interstellar, this is an approach I’m comfortable with and have wanted to explore in comics. Realistic sci-fi is only the beginning of this story; we have something more epic in store."

Interestingly, with Hal now a scientist rather than cocky pilot, he'll be finding new ways to use the power of a Green Lantern. "Hal Jordan is a smart, capable person with a space and science background who has a lot of untapped potential even before he finds the ring," Bechko added. "That means he’s going to approach everything the ring does from the perspective of a scientist, but he’s going to employ it for action and adventure. The result for us is the opportunity to fully embrace the science fiction aspects of the story in a way that would be impossible with other characters."

I prefer that cartoonist guy as Green Lantern. Makes much more sense given his powers;

@ODanil - at the same time kind of makes a lot less sense given the way you get the ring and how it's powered, as you would assume an Air Force pilot has more will and courage than a cartoonist

There are also Teen Titans and Wonder Woman Earth One graphic novels. ALL of the Earth One line is awesome and I hope they culminate in an epic team up with everyone established.

Dang. Digging that cover. Should be cool to see Hal's origins from a different perspective.

This is a very interesting take on the character and I hope it sells well so more stories like this will be told.

I feel like Blue Beetle (Kord) And Metamorpho could also have cool stories in this format.

@BlackIceJoe - Totally agree. Ted Kord is my favorite C-lister in DC.

@Otis - I wish DC did more with him, but for whatever reason they like the version of Jaime Reyes more.

@BlackIceJoe - Yeah they do like him, funnily enough I thought of him when watching Spider-Man: Homecoming. Karen and that instant kill mode were very Scarab-like
