Genvid Technologies, the studio behind The Walking Dead: The Last Mile and the upcoming Silent Hill: Ascension, specializes in a form of community-based interactive streaming series known as Massively Interactive Live Events (M.I.L.E.). In this format, the audience collectively determines the plot outcomes and character fates by performing tasks earning points that allow them to influence the story. What separates this from the works of Telltale or Supermassive Games is that this is not an individualized experience, but the sum of the community as a whole. The entire audience decides where the story goes through aggregated decision-making and there's only one outcome. Once decisions are determined, they are permanently solidified as canonical without a reset button.
The company is expanding their genre horizons. At San Diego Comic Con today, they announced their next two projects post-Ascension: DC Heroes United and Borderlands EchoVision Live.
DC Heroes Unite
SAN DIEGO – July 21, 2023 – Genvid Entertainment today announced DC Heroes United, the new interactive streaming series. The title is licensed on behalf of DC by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the licensing arm of Warner Bros., and lets fans decide what DC superheroes and supervillains their favorite characters will become. Fans will decide how Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman will work together, succeed or fail, and even form the Justice League. The entire story of DC Heroes United is left up to the participating audience to decide, and the outcome of that choice will forever be etched in DC's canon as an official narrative.
At the beginning of the Earth-212 saga, our favorite superheroes and supervillains lurked in the shadows, knowing little about each other and still being legends and rumors to the general public. The emergence of a magical Tower of Fate in Gotham City puts fledgling heroes into the spotlight.
As the story of DC Heroes United progresses, the audience must make choices about morality, leadership and sacrifice for the hero. Viewers will decide if and how well the Dark Knight and Man of Steel get along and trust each other. How will Batman react to Wonder Woman and Spider-Man fighting crime in Gotham City? Will Lex Luthor give in to his darkest desires? And ultimately, who fights for good, for evil, or for themselves, and why?
DC Heroes United, whose decisions will become the enduring story of the DC Multiverse, features a host of superheroes and supervillains beyond DC Comics' Trinity. Genvid has also teamed up with acclaimed artist Terry Dodson to bring this epic origin story to life.
“For nearly a century, DC fans like myself have debated which hero will win the battle, which hero is right, or how they will lead the Justice League,” said Genvid CEO Jacob Navok. “We give you the opportunity to participate in every important decision from day one, and enjoy the amazing storyline and high-quality visuals anywhere you can watch streaming video.
"This is similar to the impact reader decisions had on the second Robin/Jason Todd in Batman: Death in the Family, but think of it on a massive, global scale. Fan decisions will shape the canon of Earth-212, and you viewers will decide the irreversible consequences for these classic heroes and villains," said Stephan Bugaj, Chief Creative Officer at Genvid. said. “How the Justice League of this universe deals with problems, how they build relationships with each other, and how they develop as a team is up to the fans, and no one, including the creators, knows what the end result will be.”
Genvid plans to release more details ahead of the series' launch. Fans can stay up to date by following Genvid on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and signing up at https://dcheroesunited.com/.
