On Why The Release Of The Game Was Pushed Back From This Year To 2011:

"It was pushed back to early February, I think. The main driving force was to make the game better. The more time you have with these games, the more polish you can put on them. It wasn’t putting in more additional content or anything major. It was more tweaking and polishing of what existed. You don’t want to ship something that’s really buggy, and I think the goal was, by giving ourselves several more months, we'd have the ability to do a final polish and do a longer beta and get more feedback from the players. We'll also see how the game performs with additional players running around."

On How The Delay Might End Up Affecting The Game In The Long Run:

"We definitely missed that great Christmas window, but a game like this is something that is going to last for many, many years. It’ll last 5-10 years, so I’d rather start strong and keep the players involved in the community and the game, and just keep adding content to it as we add expansions and downloadable content, and other parts of the DC Universe. You can go intergalactic with it, you can go into the future with Legion of Super Heroes... There are so many cool things you can do!"

On The Costumes And Characters Featured In The Game:

"In terms of working with the iconic characters, it wasn’t that difficult doing the costumes — we just had to decide which era of costume you went with. For the Teen Titans, do you do the costumes from the cartoon, which seemed like a good draw for the game, or do you do something that’s completely inspired by the comic book? In the end, we kind of did a fusion of the two so that people who had seen and grew up with the cartoon would recognize the characters, and people who had read the comic book would hopefully see that it was influenced by what was in the comics, too — but not necessarily a 100% translation."

Im curious to see the teen titans and how they look. I never understood MMO's so maybe this will be a good jumping on point.

So is it confirmed that you'll have to pay a monthly fee to play on the PS3?

The monthly fee is still really putting me off but the more I hear about this game, the more desperate I am to play it! I'll wait until I see some reviews and more information on pricing before deciding whether or not to pick it up though.

i don't want to pay a monthly fee for a game, its alright with games for the x-box you pay for the year & you can play all their games online.

having to pay a monthly fee for dc universe online & another monthly fee for star wars knights of the old republic 3.

you won't be getting my money,i wait for batman arkham city & marvel vs capcom 3.

just think what kind of money they'll make over 5-10 years.

@Josh
Trust me the fee will seem insignificant if the game and community enf up good, thing about MMOs is they eat your other game time so you buy less games and actually save more money in the long run. But I can say this til I'm blue in the face, you'll just see if/when you get it lol Same for you Deadpool.

I actually am one of the few lucky one's who get to beta the game. Ive been playing for about a month and a half. An let me just tell you, the game is both visually stunning (even with the bugs, but not up to the same 'wow' you get with World of Warcraft) as well as epic in terms of playing with the heroe's you know and love. Though, i havent seen green lantern yet. I cant really say more, other than, this game is worth the cost and if they keep tweaking it and moving it forward like it is, once the full version comes out, the $15 monthly, wont be so bad!

Going galactic and in the future with the Legion? That sounds awesome actually! That actually makes the 15$ less painful to dish out. Just having that possibility of not only playing street level... "levels", makes it worth while. I'm still not getting it but i won't spit on it if i get it as a gift.

@ superguy1591

I can't wait for this game. I hope I get the beta. I looked at Gamestop and they said it would come out Jan. 31, 2011.

The $15 per month should only be a problem if you can't afford it. I have been paying that fee for City of Heroes for years, and I love the game and the community. The developers listen to the players and make changes wanted by the players. For a game to have kept many of its original subscribers for almost seven years, it has to be doing something right. To me, it is a great deal, as I used to spend a lot more than $15/month on other forms of entertainment that I don't spend any more.

DC Universe looks good. But then, so did Champions, and that game is failing -- going Free-to-Play in the spring because they did not keep enough subscribers. There needs to be more than lots of fighting and explosions or it gets old. Since DCUO is build to work for Consoles as well as PCs, I suspect that it will have many of the same problems as Champions. The DC Characters will probably help it do better, though.

Im glad they arent just throwing it out into the public just to get more money while its nearly christmas,id rather they ''polished'' everything and then put it out there, because at least then,we have nothing to complain about and i think they just really wana make this into an amazing game,i still think it will sell no matter how long we wait

Like Local Man, I'm a City of Heroes player as well (two accounts even, so that's $30/month). I'll hit my four year mark in February. You guys probably drop more than $15 or $30 in a single night out for dinner and drinks, for those of you lamenting the cost. I haven't found it to be an issue yet, because of the game and the community there. As Local Man said, I've actually cut down on my monthly entertainment spending while playing City of Heroes.

From the gameplay footage I've seen, DCUO appears to be very much an action-oriented button-masher console game that wants to be viewed as an MMORPG. There were some nice touches about it, but to be honest, I didn't see much that would be an upgrade for me to switch games, other than the chance to have my characters meet up with the DC characters I grew up with. I did find it amusing that their gameplay walkthrough videos dealt with a mission in the sewers, as the sewers are where a lot of players go to fight through their first 5-8 levels in City of Heroes. (City of Villains is a different animal entirely in that regard)

If there's a free trial when the game comes out, or if I ever get a Beta invite, I'd love to have the chance to be proven wrong about the game's features though. For now though... yeah it looks like it might just be Champions Online all over again, just with more recognizable NPCs.

@TheDeomonHunter Iv'e played both CoX and CO and let me be the first to agree CO is a train wreck. It honestly depends on what you're looking for. DCUO is an MMORPG just as much as CoX is. Although if you're looking for the more traditional roll to see if you hit D20 kinda MMO keep with CoX. If you're looking for something that plays like an action game, in an MMO world, go with DCUO. I can't really release too much about the game or I would be breaking NDA. What I can tell you, is that you can expect for combat to be 10x more interesting in DCUO than in CoX.

The game honestly plays A LOT like the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games. More like the first Ultimate Alliance to be honest. Although it actually has a world to run around in.

$180 per year? Working at McDonalds you make over 10,000 a year. Thats about a hundredth of 1% of your income. If you cant budget your money to accommodate that you shouldn't be playing video games anyway.

I can tell you it's not a bad game at all, but if your looking for something like the CoH experience you are not going to get it. It looks wonderful, Gotham and Metropolis are spot on. But the game is just too limited for my taste. It's an action game pure and simple.

You get to choose several powers from your power sets, but you can only have 6 active at a time, just one hotbar with 6 spaces. Also the controls are pure action controls set, you can't click on or mouse over anything except on your options screen.

The costumes and character models look great, you just don't have many to choose from. Just like CoH you get the large, medium, and small builds but with no sliders to adjust them. Very limited personal appearance options such as hair and face. You don't start with many costume choices and with no weapon choices, but that is quickly taken care of since you get lots of nice pieces that drop in the world. You can either equip them for the stats or just add them to your cosmetic list.

Power sets are very limited as well, there are only 6. Also each power set is limited to a specific role, all fire and ice characters are tanks, all devices and mental characters are controllers, and all sorcery and nature characters are healers.

All and all a solid action game, but not a MMORPG by any means. While it is fun to play, with a level cap of only 30 that typically is reached between 2-5 days I'm not sure what the draw is going to be to pay to play this each month. I played CoH for 5 years and loved every minute of it, but I will be passing on this one. Like I said if your looking for a good action game and your willing to pay $15 a month for it give it a try, but if your looking for a more traditional MMO experience wait for a free trial or Buddy Pass and make sure you like it first.

Thank you for the information! That pretty much seals it for me on skipping this game. Doesnt sound deep enough for an MMO for me (The wife and I currently play WoW). I am thinking about trying out Star Wars: TOR, but they are pretty tight lipped on info currently..

I also agree with all the above statements about the MMO monthly fee actually saving money on entertainment. I used to rent games/dvd/blurays frequently... and that savings can more that justify that monthly fee. It also has chopped down my console game purchases.

@Ambushbug -- One of the things I was surprised to see they'd made progress with was that in the initial demos when first announced, they excitedly declared how you could have as many as 4 powers active at a time. I almost fell out of my chair laughing at how weak that was. Upgrading to 6 powers must seem like a huge jump unless you're used to playing CoH where you can have a couple dozen powers in your trays to go at any moment. That's probably one of the big cons of building it for console games -- making it so the controls all work out on a PS3 controller instead of the versatility of a keyboard and mouse. On the other hand, I really liked the possibilities I saw in the character creator, despite the lack of sliders.

@Sortis -- When I look for an RPG, I'm not looking for a console action game, which from what you've said pretty well rules out DCUO for me. Beyond that though, I'm looking for an opportunity to build characters that will be able to tell their story in the framework of whatever world they're in. I'm first and foremost a roleplayer (I lead two RPSGs on Virtue server for CoH) and storyteller, as well as a base builder there. I don't expect bases in DCUO to ever exist, and the fact that it was developed for console gaming leads me to believe that RP options would be limited as well.

All the gameplay walkthroughs I've seen have so far displayed a pretty limited world with limited options for anything beyond basic arcade-style combat. That's not particularly interesting IMO. Again, this might not be the case, but if it isn't, they need to start putting up better videos to give a better feel for what their game offers that CoH doesn't if they want to capture the MMORPG crown for superhero games.

Like I said, I'd like to see this game for myself to make an informed choice here, but all the video walkthroughs of actual gameplay have left me seriously disappointed.

Because of NDA I can't say much but I will say, if you love super heroes, look forward to it when it comes out.
