Announced at this past July's San Diego Comic-Con, Gang War is the next Marvel Comics crossover epic and it kicks off this November.
Spinning out of Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.'s hit run of Amazing Spider-Man, Gang War will see a war declared between the gang lords of New York City, causing chaos throughout the Big Apple. As villains fight villains and crime envelops the city, Peter Parker will launch his own war.
It's General Spidey at the helm, leading a group of heroes that includes Miles Morales, She-Hulk, Daredevil, and Spider-Woman. Their goal: take down the super-gangs in under 48 hours. But what does Mayor Luke Cage and the city's strong anti-vigilante laws have to say about it? Will Mary Jane, a.k.a. Jackpot, gamble on getting involved? And is Shang-Chi a friend or foe?
Meanwhile, villains are fighting villains. Criminals are fighting criminals. Hobgoblin, Mr. Negative, the Owl, Shotgun, Diamondback, A.I.M., H.Y.D.R.A., and more battle with and against each other for NYC supremacy. For Peter, "going on patrol" isn't enough...hence why he's about to declare this war on super-crime.
Starting in November, we'll prepare for war with special prelude issues under the banner of "Gang War: First Strike." Then, the event officially begins in December’s Amazing Spider-Man #39 before tying into some of our favourite ongoing series and a number of all-new titles.
We've previously heard that two classic villains will make a game-changing return, and we can't help but wonder whether this is where Kingpin steps back into the spotlight (he is front and centre below, after all).
This Friday, Marvel Comics will hold a special "Amazing Spider-Man - Gang War" panel at the New York Comic-Con and, to hype up that and the event, we have some spectacular new promotional artwork by Ryan Stegman.
As you can see, a number of villains loom large as they plot to make the Big Apple their own. Meanwhile, Spider-Man and his amazing friends are swinging into action to do what superheroes do...and yes, Spider-Boy is there for some reason. The web-slinger's newly introduced sidekick has divided opinions but will clearly have a role to play here.
Stay tuned for more on Gang War later this week!
