COMICS: A New Ant-Man Takes The Spotlight In Latest MARVEL NOW! POINT ONE Teaser

With the brainwashed Eric O'Grady set to become a villain in the form of the Black Ant later this year, is this new Ant-Man - who Nick Fury is keeping an eye on - either Hank Pym (currently going under his "Giant-Man" alias) or the recently resurrected Scott Lang?

We already know that Marcus Johnson Nick Fury is keeping tabs on Cable and Nova, but it looks like Ant-Man will also be playing a big role in this October's Marvel Now! initiative. So, who exactly is behind the mask? It could be the original Hank Pym (especially now that work on the film is finally moving ahead) but it seems far more likely that it is in fact Scott Lang. He was brought back from the dead in the pages of Avengers: The Children's Crusade, while the latest hero to hold the title - Eric O'Grady - was murdered in Secret Avengers and brought back as a bad guy to spy on the team. Share your thoughts and theories in the usual place!

Nova and Antman seem to be to tie in with the movies. My bet is Rocket Raccoon is also featured.

SmellofDuty Not necessarily. I have heard from a lot of people that the suit shown in the test footage, is only a test suit. It isn't finalized. So yeah, it pretty much could be any thing.

@marvel72

He may not have a movie, but he's a person of interest that needs explanation. Did X-Sanction even fully explain how he came back? I can't remember. But anyways, if he's holding 5 dossiers, you know some of them are going to be movie plugs. The fact that is the new 616 Black Nick Fury says it all.

Oh yeah, and you're probably right with the Winter Soldier guess too

@dantesparda: I actually wouldn't be surprised if black panther is on one of the cards. After reading this weeks fantastic four, it foreshadows something big coming for t'challa.

yeah you're right about cable,he does need explaining.he needs to be on active duty in the marvel universe maybe join uncanny x-force.

@ dantesparda

when latinoreveiw(i think thats the name of the site)broke the news that the guardians of the galaxy movie was happening,they also added that nova & thanos could be appearing.

@marvel72 I forgot Winter Soldier. Maybe Falcon will show up too.
EvilSniperXV
EvilSniperXV - 7/18/2012, 3:28 PM
I'm fairly confident that Spider-man will be on one of the cards as well. Simply due to the fact that in the 688 - 689 issues of Amazing Spider-man, Peter is like a loose cannon. He seems to not care about "crossing that line" and he is willing to
(spoiler)
kill both Morbius and the Lizard.
(spoiler)

Not to mention that he is going to be getting a sidekick with Alpha... so I believe that Peter's personality will change. Marvel Exec's said that "characters will change, along with their personalities"... which I believe is a direct tie to Peter.

Let me know what you guys think.

"It could be the original Hank Pym (especially now that work on the film is finally moving ahead)"

Why are folks having such difficulty with this? SCOTT LANG, NOT HANK PYM, IS WRIGHT'S ANT-MAN.

Okay? ;-P
EvilSniperXV
EvilSniperXV - 7/18/2012, 3:29 PM
Also, when the year started, they interviewed the writers of ASM, and they said "It's going to be a big year for peter, considering it is the end of the world, and we have our 700th issue this year."

So could they possibly give peter a sidekick officially - like long term? Or will they completely change his attitude?

Cable could appear in the sequel to First Class. Who knows!

@Yoss Where did you come up with that name?

@DanteSparda
Gamora of the GOTG is the one that will tie Nova and Thanos into the GOTG movie... or at least she should... seeing how she is Thanos' adopted daughter and Nova's lover...
HelaGood
HelaGood - 7/18/2012, 3:44 PM
im thinking Nova will make an appearance in Iron Man 3 or in Cap 2 (possibly post credits) and that will lead into the GOTG
EvilSniperXV

Did they even say Nova was going to be in Guardians of the Galaxy?

Hell yes to Cable being on Uncanny X-Force! Never thought of that. Some good old Cable/Wolverine/Deadpool team-up action would be the shît!

"@JohnyKrypton That was never confirmed. And the rumor said Scott Lang was the present day Antman, not THE Antman."

Swing and a miss:

SHH!: I think it's interesting that the Ant-Man you knew and grew up with was the Scott Lang one, since most people I would think know the one who hung with the Wasp in "Tales to Astonish."

Wright: Well, the thing is that what we want to do, the idea that we have for the adaptation is to actually involve both. Is to have a film that basically is about Henry Pym and Scott Lang, so you actually do a prologue where you see Pym as Ant-Man in action in the 60's, in sort of "Tales to Astonish" mode basically, and then the contemporary, sort of flash-forward, is Scott Lang's story, and how he comes to acquire the suit, how he crosses paths with Henry Pym, and then, in an interesting sort of Machiavellian way, teams up with him. So it's like an interesting thing, like the "Marvel Premiere" one that I read which is Scott Lang's origin, it's very brief like a lot of those origin comics are, and in a way, the details that are skipped through in the panels and the kind of thing we'd spend half an hour on."

ONE of us knows what they're talking about ;-)
JohnnyKrypton
JohnnyKrypton - 7/18/2012, 4:10 PM
Now if Marvel is smart, they'll make him move it from the 60s to like 10 years ago- then Wright can tell Lang's story butPym still has his history and, not being in his 70s, would be free to join the Avengers down the line
mkilban2
mkilban2 - 7/18/2012, 4:20 PM
@everyone

I figure that Wright will do it like it was done on A:EMH, where Pym and Jan are like Stark/BW's ages and are the main characters and then once Pym makes the suit and all that jazz then Lang steals it does some crimes, then Pym/Jan stop him then help him and he has a happy ending and fades away and then Hank/Jan move into Avengers2 or w/e

sounds like the best way no??
JohnnyKrypton
JohnnyKrypton - 7/18/2012, 4:29 PM
@mkilban2

Yep. That's more or less how it went in the comics (minus the happy ending...). The only thing that would gum it up would be setting it in the 60s. I'd still rather just have Pym as Ant-Man, though
mkilban2
mkilban2 - 7/18/2012, 4:34 PM
@JohnnyKrypton

I don't see why they cant just set the entire story in present day?..

I mean last time I checked that whole 60's thing hasn't even been mentioned by Wright in a good while right? so who's to say that it isnt set in the past then present right?

wait and see I suppose haha

@JohnnyKrypton I agree. It should all be in the present day. Thanks for showing the interview, didn't realize he confirmed it.
