COMICS: Easter Egg In KICK-ASS 3 Finale Indicates That...It Was All A [SPOILER]?!

Mark Millar (MPH) and John Romita Jr. (Superman) brought Kick-Ass to an end this week, but hidden in the finale are a few Easter Eggs which have left us wondering whether the writer is trying to tell us all that the events of the past few volumes have all been just a [SPOILER]...

The amazing finale to Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s Kick-Ass finally went on sale earlier this week, and while we won't spoil the fate of any of the characters for you, we have spotted one Easter Egg which is definitely worth sharing! Near the end of Kick-Ass 3 #8, there's a scene with Dave and his girlfriend Val (a nurse) in the hospital. However, as you can see from the images below, Dave Lizewski's name is written on the list of patients in the ICU unit, something which makes little sense considering the fact that he's physically fine for the most part here.

We also see in the background of another panel a man standing over his son's bed. Look familiar? If you go back and read through the second issue of the first volume of Kick-Ass, you'll see that it's an exact recreation of a scene from the opening of that comic when Dave's (now DEAD) father visits him after he was stabbed and hit by a car following his first attempt at fighting crime as Kick-Ass!

So, what does this mean for the series? Well, speculation is now running rampant that the events of everything from issue #2 onwards have all been a hallucination brought on as a result of Dave's coma. His girlfriend being a nurse is no coincidence, as it could just be that she's the one who changes his bedpan every day! It's all speculation of course, and as the final few pages reveal how the world of Kick-Ass is connected to the likes of Nemesis and Superior, it would be a pretty big shock if this and every other Millarworld title are all just a dream thought up by a comatose kid who was foolish enough to try and be a superhero. Based on what we see here though, that could just the the case! What do you guys think? Share your thoughts and theories below...

Didn't Millar also point this out on his Twitter? Hope it's not true.

No way! Can this be for real?

I pray this doesn't have an ending a la the infamous season of DALLAS, in which we learn a whole year and a significant death was entirely one character's dream…...

I guess Mllar was a fan of St. Elsewhere.

Lizewski is a common jewish last name and David is an extremely popular first name for jews. So, it is not that unlikely, especially in NYC, which has more Jews than Israel, for there to be more than on Dave Lizewski.

Dude...

Josh, you've seen me on here for years and you know I've never given you or any other editors a hard time, but this was pretty rough, bro. You need a spoiler in the heading before you piss off a lot of people.

thank god you don't care about stories making sense or being intelligent as long as they're fun, right?

@ RobertLeifeld

Yeah, and the complete recreation of the scene of Kick-Ass in the hospital bed with his father sitting there is also a monumental coincidence as well, huh?

Also on the board is the name "Sarah Chalk". That's probably a scrubs reference alluding to Sarah Chalke who played Dr. Elliot Reid in the show.

Originally really is dead. So Kick-Ass is basically just the recycled concepts of Spider-Man (a teenage superhero) merged with the idea of Batman (a powerless vigilante who takes justice in his own hands):/

Josh anyone could tell that it was "All a dream" within your title. C'mon man, you lazily let the cat out e bag within the teaser itself. All you had to say was "Reveals that..." And keep it like that.

Jesus, calm down! I added [SPOILER] to the headline as some of you suggested (not politely I might add, which is why I deleted several of them), but you're acting as if the final panel of the series was Dave waking up and realising it was all a dream...these are just Easter Eggs that Millar and Romita Jr. put in the background as a joke which we thought would be fun to point out. The only person on this thread with any sort of courtesy is @CorndogBurglar (not a surprise as he's a longtime member and not one of the many trolls this site has become inundated with).

In fairness though, the term "all a dream" is so overused, pretty much everybody will read the title and go, "Aw [frick], it was all a dream?!" People's minds are presumptuous. And yeah, this is pretty much just a theory at this stage, I dunno why people would be getting so worked up about it.

I'm not a fan of Millar, really, but I'll defend the suggestion of the "it was all a dream" trope. Admittedly, comic book fans are famously (and amusingly) sticklers for "it better have really happened in continuity!", regardless of the other merits of an individual story, but I don't think that's overly relevant for a stand-alone series like this.

People like to pull out St. Elsewhere or Dallas (although Newhart was my favorite useage of the direct method), but this doesn't strike me as one of those. Instead, this sounds more akin to Total Recall or Pan's Labyrinth... Something left open ended, where the audience can decide whether what they saw was really what happened or not.

Haha! I can't say I recall that, but it's not a big stretch that a Batman Forever fan would also be dumb enough to be racist.
