Yes, I guess they mean the next big thing, after the upcoming..err, next big thing which will see The Avengers Take On The X-Men. Anyway, back in 1995 we had the first "AOA" crossover event which saw the incredibly powerful mutant Apocalypse plunge Earth into an alternate dystopian timeline. The ramifications of that story are still felt in the Marvel Universe today and now we are about to have another. This time spinning off from the recent Dark Angel from the pages of Uncanny X-Force. Here is some brand new preview art for the story..

Click the link below back to Newserama to check out the details as they are revealed live. Here is a tease of the event from writer David Lapham..

"We start sort of spinning out of Uncanny X-Force. There are events that happen there that we directly fall out of. Basically, we open with Weapon X, who's the Big Bad Overlord of the Age of Apocalypse world, and he's just sort of wiped out the last enclave of humanity."

@Gaston:
DC's DCnU is pretty much an answer to Marvel's Ultimate Universe, but instead of keep it separate from their New Earth, they makes it their new primary canon universe entirely. I doubt theyre trying to follow in DC's footsteps.

Spider-clones! Ridiculously complex X-men stories with multiple teams! Jim Lee redesigns! Age of Apocalypse! Excessive crossover events and deaths! All the signs of the 90’s are there! Bankruptcy is on the horizon!

AOA Sabretooth was awesome and 90's X-Men was one of the best things in the Comic industry at the time.

Yeah this is pretty ridiculous. Not to be hating on anything from Marvel, but redoing old story arcs and killing off major characters isn't good strategy.

so because they decide to do it a second time. it means it's all garbage?
jesus apparently had a second coming. and i think apocalypse is a way more believable character.

I'm not saying this is going to suck (especially if that's Crossbones. I love to hate that guy), I'm just saying all these events bring back some bad, bad memories. Lets hope the players keep their heads in the game this time and the industry doesn't go to hell again.

AoA was the last great ""Big Thing" to come out of marvel IMO. Now they want to reboot it!? The house of ideas.....MY ASS!!!

Mass: DC has resurrected the '90s with their "new" redesigns and stories. Why shouldn't Marvel join them in bringing back the '90s in all its "glory"? All we need now are the ridiculous fancy covers that double the cover price of the books.

The original AOA is one of my favorite X-stories of all time. The way things are now, resurrecting it is just a cheap marketing ploy to capture on the enduring popularity of the original, with little of the creativity and imagination that made the original so successful.

I really enjoyed the AOA story, as well as the art. The art now a days just doesnt look as good, IMHO. I miss the 90's art.
