Destroyer 14's Review of "One Moment In Time" Part One

I review part one of the long-awaited Spider-Man event: "One Moment In Time." There will be some spoilers.

"One Moment In Time." The event that is supposed to explain what really happened at Peter's and Mary Jane's wedding. Does the first the issue do a good job of capturing the reader? Read on.

I never liked Brand New Day. I miss the days where Spidey would swing home and Mary Jane would be waiting for him. I can't stand now that he's less confident, asking advice from Harry, (really!) and that it just doesn't feel right. He's been through everything that Brand New Day is doing. Now, One Moment In Time is supposed to explain what occurred during the wedding.

This issue felt weak. I wasn't a huge fan of the art. Mary Jane just looks plain weird. Anyways, most of this issue is a flashback from the annual where Peter and Mary Jane got married. (That's out the window now of course). We are treated to some retro-style art. The best part in this issue in my opinion is the Black Suit. Other than that, I didn't like it too much.

I am looking forward to, however, the reason exactly why they weren't married. It's amazing in the flashback, how they just don't seem to connect. I think the writers did that on purpose.

In closing, compared to the past Spidey events, this one just wasn't that good. Maybe issue two will be better. I'm looking forward more to Origin of Species.

I give this issue a 2.5/5. Part two will be out in two weeks.

good review Destroyer. Hopefully this will set them back on course. Maybe he will get more confidence as the story progresses and can over come whatever guilt or fear he has

The one aspect I had to nitpick was the emphasis that Mephisto has been behind this thing long before BND. The red bird and those men who met that thug...I mean whats next...other than that I hope this really picks up and makes things right

@anil...what other force could be behind this? One-Above-All? Loki?, The Beyonder?

@Anil Rickly Interesting. We'll know in a couple of issues what really happened.

@aki: There was no face revealed because the other Storm made it invisible out of respect for Peter. Not in those exact words, but she pretty much says so after the fact.

Plus, The deal was made THEN Mephisto retroactively changed history. I mean, if a bargain was struck such that the wedding was never supposed to happen, how else can Mephisto do it without going back in time and stopping the marriage? What does bother me about this whole thing is how a brick and a dude who couldn't weigh more than, say, 500 lbs took spider-man out long enough to miss what he knows is one of the defining moments of his life (see: AMS #33).
