Marvel Comics Is Hyping The Most Shocking Issue Of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN In 50 Years This May

Marvel Comics is finally ready to reveal what Peter Parker did, and a new teaser hypes that up as the most shocking issue of Amazing Spider-Man since the night Gwen Stacy died! Find more details here...

At the beginning of Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.'s Amazing Spider-Man run, it was established that Peter Parker did something that alienated him from his friends, family, and fellow heroes. We know he stole from the Fantastic Four, teamed up with Norman Osborn, and found himself at the heart of some sort of massive explosion, but what the heck happened?

Answers are on the way and, as expected, it seems Mary Jane Watson will be at the heart of those.

When Nick Spencer wrapped up his time working on Amazing Spider-Man, Peter was getting ready to propose to MJ. Given their deal with Mephisto, fans have questioned how that's possible, and we've since seen that she's found a new man and is acting as a mother to his two children.

We can only assume that's tied to whatever the web-slinger did, and the blurb from Marvel Comics reads: "This May, Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.’s run of Amazing Spider-Man reaches a startling unexpected climax and conclusion of its first year! Don’t miss two over-sized, monumental Amazing Spider-Man issues with #25 and the heartbreaking #26!"

What's really interesting about this is the fact the story is billed as "The Most Shocking Issue Of Amazing Spider-Man In 50 Years." That has to be a reference to Gwen Stacy's death and is a bold proclamation by the publisher.

It's hard to say what could be even bigger and more shocking than that, but this could be a game-changer for Spider-Man that forever changes his status quo. It also sounds like the plan is for Wells and Romita Jr. to remain on the series, news we're sure many of you will welcome (even if the former somewhat dropped the ball with Ben Reilly in Dark Web).

We're sure you'll also notice that these covers pay homage to Spider-Man: Blue #2 and Amazing Spider-Man #121!

Take a closer look at the teaser for this massive story below.

Spider-Man in comics is so far off track it’s insane. They’re probably going to make MJ green goblin then kill her

Are any modern storylines really going to be looker at as classics like Dark Phoenix, Infinity War, or Secret Wars?

I know there have been some here and there like Civil War, Secret Wars 2016, etc. But since Secret Wars 2016, has there really been anything of true interest that will be remembered as a truly great story that becomes a classic in 20 years?

@CorndogBurglar - No, because there is no more build up. One of the most amazing things about Dark Phoenix (or even Mutant Massacre or AoA) was the slow build and times of relative peace leading up to the large events. That’s what made them special. It wasn’t the world changing event, it was that two issues prior they were on a date or playing baseball.

When you are always loud, there is no such thing as a crescendo.

Just have Spider-man fight the writers so they can stop torturing him already.

As long as they don't him into a transvestite multi-gender Satan worshipping cannibal sheep humping left-handed Half Dutch half Thai Philadelphia dwelling pervert, I'm good with whatever they do.

@DocSpock - What's wrong with Philadelphia dwelling (besides there not being many true skyscrapers to swing on)?

@TheGrayGhost -

The only thing wrong with Philly is everything. Goon city, USA.

Ahhh yes. Until the next most important issue in 50 years...next year. Marvel and DC comics are in a bad way rn. There is absolutely nothing that has me running to my LCS on a monthly basis. HoXPoX and the ensuing X-men ongoing by Hickman was the last one.

I stopped reading shortly after they put John Romita, Jr. on to wreck the art for years. (I started in 1975, so it was like quitting smoking to stop.)

Perhaps the big shock is they're going to prevent him from every drawing Spider-man again? That might bring me back.
