Even superheroes need a night off occasionally. Some time to kick back, unwind, and hopefully not be kidnapped by mysterious villains and forced to fight for your life through elaborately laid death traps.
Unfortunately for X-Men staples Jubliation lee (Jubilee), Alison Blaire (Dazzler), and Tabitha Smith (Boom Boom), things don't go quite as planned when their girls night out brings a bit more action than they had bargained for. How will these 3 explosive beauties escape their deadly fate? You can only find out in the pages of Leah Willaims (X-Factor, Trial of Magneto) and Calos Gomez's (Amazing Spider-Man Beyond) upcoming 5-issue miniseries, X-Terminators.
The creative team have confirmed that the series will take great influence from various "Grindhouse" films, which means violence and fan service galore for readers who prefer a more "grown up" comic experience. With 3 strong personalitied female leads who all feature mutations with maximum explosive capabilities, readers are certainly in for a blockbuster experience on the page.
The cover art for issue 1 (By Federico Vicentini) implies that Laura Kinney's Wolverine will also play a part, so it's safe to assume that many a bad guy will leave the story with less appendages than they started out with.
When asked about the tone of the series, the creators seemed overjoyed at the freedom they had been aforded to make the series as dark and mature as possible. "I'm excited about how gleefully transgressive this book is -- it's sexy, stupid, and chaotic," said writer Leah Williams. "One of my favorite moments in the making-of this book was Jordan [D. White] asking, 'What do you think...Parental Advisory for this book? Or just T+?...I am leaning PA."
Carlos chimed in about his excitment to team up with Williams. "I'm eager to be working on X-Terminators with Leah! She's an incredible writer and always delivers fun and engaging stories and this title is no exception! Did I mention it's action-packed? Also, X-Men has been one of my favorite series, and it's always cool to be back in the X-Family."
The X-Terminators have a long history in Marvel Comics, being the original name for the group that would go on to become the first X-Force, along with several other incarnations over the years. The team name was seen most recently in 2021's Cable Reloaded, calling themselved the "All New X-Terminators".
The Synopsis for the series reads as follows: "In typical X-Men fashion, what starts as a wild night out gets even crazier when Jubilee, Boom-Boom, and Dazzler and kidnapped and put into elaborate death traps by a mysterious new army of enemies. What are three fierce mutants with the power to blow things up to do? Expect a hardcore, neon-fueled, down and dirty type of adventure unlike any seen before in X-Men history with all the light blasts, fireworks, time bombs, and brawling you can possibly hope for!"
Readers can catch issue on on sale in July 6th of this year.
