With a whopping 2,178 (58.77%) votes you guys chose Robert Downey Jr's portrayal of Tony Stark as the best. Now you won't get much argument for me, he was great. But I don't think he was the best. My vote went to Chris Evans as Steve Rogers who came in at second with 538 Votes(14.52%). Chris Hemsworth as Thor was third with 302 Votes (8.15%) and Ed Norton was in at fourth place with 201 Votes (5.42%) as Bruce Banner.

Here are the results in full..

There seems to have been a bit of confusion in the comments section of the Poll article. This was only Marvel STUDIOS characters, not any Marvel character that has appeared onscreen. So any of the X-Men(covered in a previous poll) or Spider-Man, The Punishers etc were not eligible.

Chris Evans was great as Cap, but I can still imagine others playing that character.

Iron Man however? RDJ has that owned. That's why he won by a landslide :-)

That's how I feel aaronite1999. RDJ is Tony muthaf*ing Stark. No one else can replace him.

Clark Gregg? Coulson's not even in the comics... How did he get 21 votes? I think Clark Gregg is here voting for himself, guys... Anyway.

I love RDjr as Stark, but I still think he plays the part as a little too Robert Downey Jr. He pretty much acts like himself, and ignores that stick-in-the-mud aspect of Tony we often see in the comics... I still couldn't imagine anyone else doing it as well as he does though.

I think Evans was the best. And that's not just because the movie is fresh in my mind and that - he really did own it. Evans, Hemsworth, Downey, & Norton were all pretty spot on in my book. They couldn't have been any better really :)

I don't think Evans has had a chance to be Cap yet. A lot of time is spent developing Skinny Rogers, and as we all know, I think that's awesome. By the time he's Cap, he's still humble and learning. Starting a transition. There's little time in the origin chapter for him to peak as the solid and stern serious soldier. So, we'll see.

Unfortunately, I think the telling of Caps origin from First Avenger is going to continue in Avengers due to Cap waking up in the world. But at some point, he has to become Cap. Then I can rate. Far as looks, not bad. In his mid-thirties, he will definitely look more the part.

Yep, but Jeff Bridges was very good as Stane and Ed Norton did good as mild soft spoken Banner.

@Nephillim

How is RDJ's Tony Stark very Ultimate-ish? Explain that to me. In the Ultimate Comics, Tony Stark talks and behaves with a very distinct blue-blood attitude. He acts like he was born and raised as royalty in the 18th century. I don't see any of that in RDJ's Iron Man.

Edward Norton was Edward Norton. He's like Tom Cruise in that regard. He's always playing the same character in every movie.

Hemsworth was good as Thor. However the movie itself was terrible. Evans was also very good as Cap.

I don't know if RDJ was the best per se but the fact the Iron Man was in my opinion the best Marvel movie yet influenced my vote quite a bit. Otherwise I probably would have voted Chris Evans.
ObiBinks
ObiBinks - 8/16/2011, 10:21 PM
RDJ definitely brought most to the character, but what he portrayed wasn't Tony Stark, it was his and Jon Favreau's creation. Iron Man was the best of the movies, and RDJ was absolutely amazing in it, but that's not what this poll was asking. Respect the question!
nikgrid

Robert Downey Jr was PERFECT as the MOVIE Iron Man, and that movie, much like Captain America actually improved the characters over the comic counterparts.

In the Comics Stark is goddamn boring and a real prick...not likable at all. And in the comics Captain America is a sanctimonious jerk, who tells everyone what to do.

AGreEd! RDJr was born to play Stark.

Some ppl say Iron Man 2 sucked more than a hooker on crack, but IHM, if anything alone makes the movie worth watching, it's Downey's acting. You cant hate the guy. He's too flippin' hilarious!

I agree with SkrullWar, RDJ, Evans then Hiddleston as Loki stand out for me. I also thought Terrance Howard was a way better Rhodey than Don Cheadle and was surprised he wasn't in the poll. A Battle of Rhodey subplot would have been awesome!
