ULTIMATE UNIVERSE #1 Preview Reveals A Brutal, Merciless New Take On Ultimate Thor

Jonathan Hickman is relaunching the Ultimate Universe and its God of Thunder...well, he's taking no prisoners. In this first look at the issue, Thor wants Mjolnir and he'll do anything to take it back.

Ultimate Invasion made for an intriguing read and, by the time all was said and done, a new Ultimate Universe had been created. However, thanks to The Maker's intervention, that world is a far cry from the Marvel Universe.

Now, it's down to Iron Lad (a version of Tony Stark who is more Kang than Iron Man) and Reed Richards/Doctor Doom to assemble the heroes this world needs.

In this first look at this Wednesday's Ultimate Universe #1, Thor is revealed to have been kept prisoner in Asgard. However, he's now free and wants Mjolnir back...by any means necessary. This version of the hero doesn't hold back and it appears the God of Thunder will have a vastly different dynamic with his home than his Earth-616 counterpart.

Based on previously released cover art, we're pretty sure Sif will end up fighting alongside him on Earth-6160, though Marvel Comics has yet to announce plans for a new Ultimates/Ultimate Avengers series. We are, however, getting Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate X-Men, and Ultimate Black Panther

In Ultimate Universe #1, Jonathan Hickman will team up with Stefano Caselli to lay the groundwork for a new line of Ultimate Comics. In the extra-sized foundational one-shot, we'll enter a new age of Ultimate storytelling filled with bold takes on iconic Marvel characters and special previews of upcoming Ultimate titles, including the recently revealed Ultimate Spider-Man and more.

It was recently revealed that the latter will feature an older Peter Parker who is married to Mary Jane. They also have two children and you can learn more about the new spider-family by clicking here

"What made the Ultimate Universe originally really interesting was that it was a reflection of the world outside your window, in the moment that you were living in. What does it look like in the world we’re living in now?" Hickman said earlier this year. "It’s kind of shocking how much the world has changed in that period of time. The idea of what it would be like to see the genesis of Super Heroes in a brand new world is a really fascinating exercise."

THE SPOILS OF VICTORY! After the worlds-shaking conclusion of ULTIMATE INVASION, a new team of heroes bands together to save the future! From mastermind Jonathan Hickman and superstar artist Stefano Caselli, don't miss out on this foundational issue for the new line of Ultimate Comics!"

First, Ultimate Thor used to have an earring. Should've kept that. Makes him even more metal. Second, you're introducing Ultimate Sif just to have her be the copy of 616 + not even show any romantic feelings for Thor? Should've changed her design to reflect the Ultimate Universe + make her Thor's ex-wife or something.

@URCOMMENTSUCKS - it's not the ultimate universe from before. It's a new universe they're calling the ultimate universe for brand recognition.

He kind of reminds me of Thunderstrike from the 90’s

Ok first of all, I should make it clear that this isn't the ultimate universe. It's basically just a new universe under the premise of the original ultimate universe. For example, this ultimate spiderman is a full grown man who's married to mj and has two kids, as opposed to the actual ultimate spiderman who died as a teen.

Second, stop saying the ultimate universe was unique because it was "the world outside our window". That's the main marvel universe. What made the ultimate universe unique was it was a "rebooted" marvel universe. Basically starting the marvel universe from scratch in a more modern time. Such as having spiderman work on the daily bugle website as opposed to being a photographer.

@Origame - that’s not Tony Stark in the Iron Man suit either, is it?

@WruceBayne - I mean, kinda?

I mean, it is Tony stark, but the current arc is him becoming Kang. His suit even being a reference to iron lad.

@Origame - I thought that was Howard Stark in the suit and Reed Richards in the Doom armor. I also didn’t read past the 2nd or 3rd issue either so maybe they changed it.

@WruceBayne - nah. Basically we had hints that the Kang is a future Tony stark. Basically a prophecy saying he's gonna become Kang. And it started with him putting on iron lad inspired armor.

@Origame - ok. I get it now.

Ultimate Invasion was horrible, was so let down and don't understand how anybody is praising it.

@breakUbatman - Same. Crazy nurse Thor was the best. I loved it when it was ambiguous if he was really God or not and was a bit disappointed when it was revealved that he was. Aggro Captain America was hilarious too - such a departure from his 616 personality. And badass Hawkeye killing people with his fingernail? That was the icing on the cake. Fantastic different takes on the characters.
