X-Men Schism: Who's side are they on? Part One: Team Cyclops

With the recent revelation that Schism will divide the X-Men into two teams, Cyclops' and Wolverine's, I have made a list of characters that I think would make sense to join each team.

Before I get this under way, I would just like to clear something up. The article that was recently posted on this site that described this event for the first time had an image in it. In the image we saw a picture of the X-Men standing together during happier times. The picture was torn down the middle, leaving Wolverine and a few X-Men on one side, and Cyclops and some other X-Men on the other half. There was a lot of confusion, so let me just say this...the different halves of the picture did not represent the rosters of the teams post-Schism. I repeat, these were NOT...ACCURATE...ROSTERS. I know that sparked some heat between some people, so I just wanted to clear that up.

Now, I am an avid reader of X-Men and have been since I was a little Burglar of Corndogs. I am 29 years old, the X-Men are what introduced me to comics as soon as I was able to read, and I still read everything X-related to this day. I will be picking my choices for both Cyclops and Wolverine's teams. I am basing these choices on past relationships between both Cyclops and Wolverine, and their respected character. I will also be looking at more recent turn of events that would help sway a character to one side or the other, as well as the dramatic effect it would have on the overall story and relationships between characters. Again, these are just my personal picks of who I would like to see go where, and why. Hope you enjoy!

Uncanny X-Men (Team Cyclops): Kieron Gillen is writing this title. In a recent interview Gillen stated that Cyke's team would be the premier mutant team that will have the most impact on the public in the Marvel U. He also stated that his Uncanny team could possibly be the most powerful team of X-Men ever united.

1. Cyclops: This is a no brainer.

2. Iceman: With the potential of Iceman's powers never fully being realized, I think this would be a great point to start highlighting the limits, or lack there of, of his powers. Iceman isn't just the kid of the team anymore. He is, quite honestly, one of the most experienced X-Men there is, and he has been shown to be a good face for the public eyes. He would make a great addition to team Cyclops.

3. Kitty Pryde: Kitty has been involved in politics, which would help garner support from the public. She may not have a very threatening power, but to dismiss it as useless is a huge mistake. She would be perfect, if for no other reason than to help gain support from the general public in the MU.

4. Colossus: The guy once gave his life to cure the Legacy Virus and save the world. You can't find a better candidate for a team that will be wanting "good natured" characters in the spotlight. Also, lets not kid ourselves, he would follow Kitty to the ends of the earth.

5. Jean Grey: With the proclamation that Schism would end friendships and loves, I think this would be the perfect time to break up Scott and Emma. There have been hints here and there about the return of the Phoenix, and what better time than now? With Scott and Emma broken up because of different views during Schism (if that even happens) this would be a perfect time to revive Jean and let her and Cyke try to work things out. Jean was always a major part of Cyke and she may be the only one to remind him of the person he once was, and possibly put an end to his recent ass-holery.

6. Storm: What team that is pining for public approval wouldn't want the Queen of Wakanda on its roster? Storm really needs no reason to be here. She's insanely powerful, and again...THE QUEEN OF WAKANDA!. 'Nuff Said.

7. Angel/Archangel: Assuming Warren comes out of this Dark Angel storyline in Uncanny X-Force in one piece, he would be yet another good addition to Cyke's team. He's a billionaire playboy that is already in good standing with the public. He has the experience to hang with the rest of the team, and with the power to switch between both feather wings and his metal wings, he is no slouch.

8. Namor: Mostly for the same reason as Storm, who wouldn't want royalty on a team trying to win the public? Just as importantly, Namor is a powerhouse. His super strength, flight, and ties to Atlantis are nothing but good for Team Cyclops!

So these are my picks for Team Cyclops. I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. Be on the lookout for Part 2: Team Wolverine! It should be up either later today or tomorrow. :)

I thought you were basing this on relationship members have with each other wouldn't make more sense for Kitty to join Logans team. But who knows she probably would side with cyke.

actually man, Beast does not like Cyke right now, its why he quit the x-men. he makes more sense to be on Wolvie's team. same with Rogue. she's not very happy with Cyke right now either, because he sidelined her not too long ago.

oh, and Nightcrawler is dead.

@ hellsing

yeah, kitty is probably closer to Wolvie, but that doesn't mean she's going to agree with him. she would make more sense on Cyke's team, considering what she represents.

Cyclops has wanted to make the X-Men seem like a regular super hero team for a very long time. They haven't said what the argument will be about, but the information i put in this article was stated by Kieron Gillen himself in an interview. So its not like i'm making things up.

it seems like Cyclops is going to try to please everyone, and continue to gain the public's trust, while Wolverine is going to say, screw them, we're gonna do our thing, and who cares what anyone thinks.

does it makes sense after explaining it like that? because honestly, thats Classic Cyclops and Wolverine right there.

also, its not necessarily about loyalty to any given character. its more like, each character is going to join they're team based on what they believe in. very much like Cap and Iron Man's teams during Civil War. Of course there will be other factors as well.

again, i'm just basing these things off of what the writer of the new Uncanny X-Men series said.

http://www.newsarama.com/comics/uncanny-x-men-relaunch-gillen-interview-110617.html

http://www.newsarama.com/comics/x-men-regenesis-alonso-lowe-110616.html

both these interviews give very scant details, but as you can see, the people giving the interviews seem to think that Cyke's team will be the "world class" team of mutants. but like you said, there's no real telling until the books come out.

also, that picture of Cyclops wearing Magneto's costume is a teaser for Fear Itself, not Schism. So don't be surprised if the "Cyclops taking on more of a dictator role" story line are covered in Fear Itself, not Schism. The headline for that pic was, "Do you fear what you've become?" but again, thats for Fear Itself.

@ astonishingcyclops

i don't think the Brotherhood would be on either team. They're not on either team now, so i highly doubt they'll just all of a sudden join one. Neither Cyclops, or wolvie's team will be an evil team, so i can't see that happening.

as for Magneto, I can see him joining Scott's team because of his power, and the way they've grown together, but at the same time, having a mutant terrorist on the team wouldn't bode well for a team thats trying to gain the public's trust.

I don't see Kitty or Colossus not being on Wolverine's team.I personally don't like the idea.I liked them all being together on Utopia watching each others back.

Well I found out that X-Men Schism is out today and I can´t pick it up do to the fact I am in South America but when I get back I´ll buy it. About who is going to be on the side of Cyclops, I would think it would be this main characters: Emma Frost, Gambit, Iceman, Pyslocke, Namor, Magneto, and the New Mutants. On Wolverine side would be: Arcangel, Colossus, Kitty Pryde, (Havok, Polaris, Phoenix), since they are going to be rescue, Rogue, maybe Beast on the sidelines, Professor X, X-23, Dust, and X-Force.

Even with Schism #1 out, the teams have not been finalized. It seems to me that since Cyke said, ' people where less scared when we weren't as organized, now that we are all in one place. people are scared to death.' has alot to do with this schizm. i think that there is going to be a break up of teams to suggest that the xmen are at odds and want to appear less "organized", so that people are not as paranoid of the mutants. but behind closed doors, there will be no tension between teams or between wolvie and cyclops. it's a mirage! anyway, my teams are as follows:
Cyclops Wolverine
Emma psylocke
Iceman colossus
angel kitty
storm deadpool
cannonball rogue
gambit namor
northstar magneto
dazzler jubilee (vampire)
most of new x-men x-23
dr. namasis fantomex
prof. Xavier dani moonstar(depower'd
cypher random
sunspot magik
box frenzy
