Agatha Harkness Gets An MCU-Style Makeover In This November's MIDNIGHT SUNS #2 From Marvel Comics

Marvel Comics has revealed a first look at the Marvel Universe's overhauled Agatha Harkness, and she looks a whole lot closer to her MCU counterpart these days. Take a closer look at the character here...

Midnight Suns #1 arrived in comic book stores this past Wednesday to kick off a saga that promises to redefine Marvel magic.

In the opening issue of this five-issue limited series, fans witnessed the rise of a new mystical threat and the impact it’ll have on prominent magic users across the planet...including Agatha Harkness! In typical Agatha fashion, the ancient witch seems to know more than anyone about the dark power that’s been unleashed and has her own plans for dealing with it.

To learn the mystery of her motives, writer Ethan Sacks and artist Luigi Zagaria will reveal more about Agatha’s shrouded past than ever before starting in Mighnight Suns #2. Is the Marvel Universe ready to learn Agatha’s secrets?

We'll see, but we're sure you'll notice that the character - typically portrayed as an elderly woman in the comic books - has been given an MCU-style makeover. Looking very much like Kathryn Hahn's take on the character in WandaVision, you can take a closer look at the new Agatha below in a design sheet by Zagaria and a variant cover for issue #3 by InHyuk Lee.

"Agatha Harkness has been a mysterious character that had Marvel fans under a spell long before her MCU debut in WandaVision," Sacks says. "Getting to reveal some of her comics backstory, from her younger, more passionate, and less cynical days has been, well, magical."

Since her first appearance in Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's Fantastic Four #94, Agatha has played many roles from Franklin Richards’ babysitter to Wanda Maximoff’s mentor, but her journey in Midnight Suns promises to usher in her biggest transformation yet! Be there when the sins of Agatha’s past finally catch up to her in issue #2 this November.

What do you guys think of Agatha's overhauled appearance in the Marvel Universe? Let us know in the comments section.

I'm sorry but how does this look anything like the Agatha from wandavision? She looks more like scarlet witch from that movie.

@Origame - yeah, it's the kinda same outfit but in purple instead of red.

Guess it's because she's not an old woman anymore that the comparison is made?
Origame
Origame - 9/16/2022, 8:16 AM
@bkmeijer1 - even in terms of just de aging doesn't even work. This Agatha is like half the age of the actress in wandavision.

@Origame - true. Maybe the long black hair then? I don't know

Also, you made me look up Kathryn Hahn. I really thought she was younger.

That's a look that I think can work in live-action just as well.

And to be honest, I kinda look forward to Coven of Chaos after the Werewolf-by-Night trailer. It got me hyped for more fantastical stuff, and Agatha is the only other thing right now in that corner of the MCU as well.

Strong Sindel from MK vibes...

...and I'm certainly not complaining.

@DrReedRichards - now that you mention it, I can see it too.

After Cobra Kai, I kinda hope those writers start working on a Mortal Kombat show. Now that would be amazing to watch.

@bkmeijer1 -

I just want a decent Lin Kuei adaptation, man; Bi-Han's death and corruption into Noob Saibot, the passing of Sub-Zero's mantle to Kuai Liang, Cyrax and Sektor's converstion into the Cyber Initiative... There's just so much untapped lore there that's begging to be made into a proper full season!

@bkmeijer1 - Cobra Kai is fun but those writers are just bad. The dialogue is seriously bad, the story and plot are laughably ridiculous is almost every single sense of the word, and NONE of the character interactions are anywhere near natural. It takes solid actors and gives them crap to work with. It is fun, and I wholly enjoy it, but it’s really poorly written and you have to completely ignore any sense of reality. They routinely just resolve shit offscreen or gloss over what COULD be some of the most interesting story beats they set up. I do hope we get more or that it’s allowed to end naturally, but outside of not getting cancelled by NF right away there’s really nothing noteworthy about it.

It's been Sindel all along!!

bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 9/16/2022, 8:22 AM
@DrReedRichards - same. The first three games can each be adapted into a season each, and I guess then same goes for the fourth game.

After X and 11 though, I also really want Cassie to be the protagonist, and that doesn't really work with those first three games.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 9/16/2022, 8:26 AM
@Deklipz - oh yeah, dialogue and story don't really feel natural, but it is quite fun (even though they're really running out of ground now).

Why I suggest them for Mortal Kombat is though, is because each fight is set up in a way that there is a reason to fight. Unlike the 2021 movie, that just had fights happen without any reason

@bkmeijer1 -

What you suggested about the first three games is basically the excellent MK9 game. Still one of the best entries in the whole franchise. Cassie is also fun, especially with the maturing of Johnny into a still goofy but a lot wiser mentor for his daughter and the rest of the new gen.

@DrReedRichards - MK9 definitely had the benefit of being a game, and so it had more time to explore the story than a movie would have.

I guess the story of those first three games can still be told in one season, but then we'd still be missing out on the whole Lin Kuei and Shirai Ryu backstory and all other deep lore bits.

If they get around to it though, I really want to see the Dragon King too. That's basically Thanos in his search for the Kamidogu.

@bkmeijer1 -

The whole Konquest of Shujinko from Deception is enough to warrant a movie on its own. For all the faults of the 3D era in those games, the lore was never an issue.

bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 9/16/2022, 9:25 AM
@DrReedRichards - exactly. I would prefer a show, where they merge it with the story of Deadly Alliance. Think those go together well.

Not sure about Armageddon though. I do like that story, but MK11 has more of an endgame feel to it.
DrReedRichards
DrReedRichards - 9/16/2022, 9:29 AM
@bkmeijer1 -

Eh, I don't know about that. I do like the celebrational feel of Armageddon with the entirety of the roster being present, but Taven and Deagon's rivalry felt like the Sub-Zeroes all over again. Older corrupted bro vs younger noble one, trying to prevent a greater power's ultimatum, yada yada yada...
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 9/16/2022, 9:51 AM
@DrReedRichards - Armageddon does have some good elements, but the rivalry isn't really one of them in my opinion either.

To me it felt the rivalry was just a means to get the entire roster together and didn't really held any substance. Might work better if we're introduced to it much earlier (like maybe Shinnok awakening Daegon early as a failsafe to secure the death and destruction of all realms).

I'm just spitballing here though, as long as it's epic I'm all good.
