AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #55 Teases A Major Character Death And ONE MORE DAY Ramifications - SPOILERS

Today's issue of Amazing Spider-Man wrapped up "Last Remains," but not quite in the way we expected. While it was short on big reveals, the finale did drop some huge hints about what's coming next...

"Last Remains" hasn't played out quite like we imagined it would in Amazing Spider-Man, but today's final chapter in issue #55 certainly delivered some big moments. Kindred, a.k.a. Harry Osborn, finally hosted his twisted dinner party and shared his resentment over Peter Parker stealing Mary Jane Watson from him years earlier and keeping Norman Osborn's secret life as the Green Goblin from him.

Peter can't quite believe that Harry's actions are all because of that, and it's clear there's something else he wants Peter to confess to. Unfortunately, the wall-crawler has no idea what that is, and it's then we get a pretty strong indication that he's been turned into Kindred thanks to the events of the still infamous (and wildly unpopular) "One More Day."

In that, Spider-Man made a deal with Mephisto to sacrifice his marriage in exchange for his Aunt May's life, but that had many unintended consequences, including Harry's return.

Earlier in this story arc, Harry revealed that Kindred's face is just a mask, but there's definitely something supernatural going on here because Spidey actually punches straight through his head here (it's an incredible visual brought to life by artist Patrick Gleason).

While all this is happening, Norman Osborn suits back up as the Green Goblin, revealing that he took precautions to ensure his son's magic wouldn't work on him. As a result, he wasn't cleansed by Sin-Eater.

With that, he throws a Pumpkin Bomb, mortally wounding Mary Jane Watson, and calling on Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin to unleash what Harry describes as "The Darkness." It's hard not to wonder if this is all part of MJ and Norman's plan, but it's clear now that there's a much bigger story being told, and if "One More Day" is being undone, it might not be until Amazing Spider-Man #900

It's a little disappointing that we still don't have any solid answers about Kindred, but it looks like patience is going to be key when it comes to Nick Spencer's run on Amazing Spider-Man

A lot of fans wanna see progression and payoff. Not limitations, or lame excuses for character regression.

@99OPTIMISTPRIME - That's the problem with 616 in my opinion. They use a sliding timeline to drag out all their characters lives and extend the story. They should let their characters live, age, die and then just start again with a new universe every 30ish years.

@99OPTIMISTPRIME - You know, its funny. People were pissed off at One More Day mostly because it made it so that Peter and MJ were no longer marriage. It had other complaints, as well, but that was the big one.

So how, for the love of God, would ANYONE think killing off MJ is the way to go when writing a story that is so heavily tied to OMD? It just boggles the mind.

@Nightwing1015 - I actually like that idea. The sliding timeline is funny. I read an arricle somewhere online years ago that compared a year of Kitty Pryde's life with how many major Marvel events took place.

In Kitty's first appearance I believe they mention she is 13 years old. Then there is an issue I believe 2 or 3 years later where they are celebrating her 14th birthday.

During that time, huge events like Infinity Gauntlet, Secret Wars, amd a couple others took place.

I could have the stories a bit mixed up because I read it a long time ago.

But also, in the original Illuminati series they mention how Infinity Gauntlet only happened a few years ago.

@99OPTIMISTPRIME - One of my favorite comic covers. One More Day did more damage to my love for comics than any supervillain could ever dream. Thanks JOE!!!!

Why do Marvel writers hate Peter Parker so much and always have to ruin everything good in his life? Shit gets old.

@AnthonyVonGeek - maybe he’s smart to make his own web shooters but he is not smart enough to make his own billion dollar company that is reason I hate peter Parker he’s smart to make suit to fight electro and his own web shooters and know science but he’s not smart enough make billion dollar company if he chooses to it’s main reason I like superior spiderman series much note over peter Parker

It’s odd that people are angry thinking she’ll stay dead. No, it’s a way to get you to buy the next issue. Spider-man died like 3 issues ago and obviously they didn’t cancel the comic so that’s not sticking. Spider-man’s new costume is going to be a special suit he’ll have for a few issues then it’ll get destroyed or something like all the other old suits. Like let the story run it’s course before you start getting angry. Just because they didn’t undo one more day in issue one doesn’t mean they aren’t going to. They’re building up to it and telling a story to get there.

I just read an article on another platform where it described a story where Mary Jane states who Spider-Man's greatest enemy was. As I read through the story, I was expecting her to say it was Joe Quesada.
