Amazing Spider-Man's "Beyond" era came to a close this week, and Ben Reilly was left with a shocking new status quo. He's been the Marvel Universe's new Spider-Man in recent months after Peter Parker was hospitalised, but when his memories were stolen by the Beyond Corporation, Ben lost many of the key moments in his life that made him a hero (such as Uncle Ben's lesson about "Great Power").
In issue #93, we saw Ben perish after a devastating battle with Peter Parker. But all was not as it seems.
After 19 issues of hard truths and soul searching, Ben is more aware than ever that something within is missing. Consumed with the idea that Peter is the source for all that’s gone wrong in his life, Ben will now swing through the Marvel Universe as Chasm, a fierce and deeply personal new foe Marvel Comics has now confirmed will be part of Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.'s upcoming relaunch.
"Amazing Spider-Man #93 brings us to the end of the mega-arc the Beyond Board worked so hard on. And though this story is coming to an end, Ben Reilly's journey is just beginning," Wells promises. "Keep reading Amazing Spider-Man to find out if Peter can pull Ben back from the Chasm."
"Get ready to get to know the most terrifying new member of Spidey’s Rogues Gallery," Editor Nick Lowe added. "Part of the point of ‘Beyond’ was the creation of Chasm and we have huge plans for the artist formerly known as Scarlet Spider, so keep your eyes peeled Web-Heads."
Fans are hoping Ben can be saved, but this wouldn't be the first time the trauma of being Spider-Man's clone has sent him down a villainous route. We'll have to wait and see how things pan out, but Marvel Comics has now released that shocking final page alongside a design sheet by Patrick Gleason:
