AMAZING SPIDER-MAN's "Beyond" Ends With A Major Death And Resurrection...And A Crazy Cliffhanger

Amazing Spider-Man's "Beyond" era reached its conclusion today, and issue #93 saw a huge death, an equally shocking resurrection, and a cliffhanger that sets the stage for Zeb Wells' upcoming relaunch...

The "Beyond" era of Amazing Spider-Man has seen Ben Reilly return as Spider-Man, but when it became clear his new employers were up to no good, Peter Parker's clone found himself without a number of key memories. Those can't be recovered, meaning Ben no longer remembers key lessons and experiences in Peter Parker's life (like Uncle Ben's whole "With Great Power..." mantra).

As you might imagine, that's left Ben a little unhinged, and in this finale, the former Scarlet Spider attempted to steal Peter's memories by any means necessary. Ultimately, he falls to his death and is consumed by a substance that rewrites matter and destroys it, thereby hiding Maxine Danger's crimes.

Ben's girlfriend, Janine Godbe, travels beneath Beyond's remains and finds his body before learning that the former Spider-Man survived. Resurrected by the goo dubbed "Quantum-Shifting Polymers in a Psycho-Reactive Medium," Ben still sees a void when he looks in the mirror and smashes that before fleeing. Those missing memories mean the clone is now his own man, but what does that make him?

It's then we learn this web-slinger has a new costume, identity, and powers as the mysterious Chasm...

As for Peter, he recovers from his injuries and agrees to move in with Mary Jane Watson. With that, a mysterious figure appears at the window and appears to take the web-slinger with him. Clearly, this cliffhanger is setting the stage for Zeb Wells' Amazing Spider-Man #1 next month; could this be the start of whatever it is the hero does that results in the entire Marvel Universe turning against him?

We'll have to wait and see, but there were plenty of shocking revelations in today's issue #93!

Trash.
I dont know why I expected anything better.

The only thing they have is keep teasing the undoing of OMD, which is probably their "red button" when sales get so bad they get close to cancellation.

The problem with coming up with new villains is that these creators make them “Hero Specific”. The genius behind villains like The Green Goblin is that he can fight Spider-Man on Tuesday and the motivations of Norman Osborn can put him in direct conflict with The Avengers, The X-Men and even The Fantastic Four on Wednesday.
Villains today have one motivation,”Kill THIS hero”. And then what happens if they succeed? NOTHING. They have nothing else left to do.
I never thought I’d see the day when creators lack creativity.

@WruceBayne - Eh, Green Goblin started out pretty Spider-Man specific. It wasn't until Dark Reign that Norman became a "general" Marvel Universe villain.

After all the only clone I really think had a good arc was Kaine. He was a good Scarlet Spider and in the end they killed him to bring Ben Reily back to do this? Marvel should banish all the Spider-clones stories, because when they have a good opportunity they always waste with this kind of thing. "Chasm" bfff

@dragon316 - I was talking about the title in the main page. I didn't read the article. I was looking at the news and read "AMAZING SPIDER-MAN's "Beyond" Ends With A Major Death And Resurrection", with no spoiler alert. Not cool to now go into my comic knowing for sure someone is going to die and someone to come back.

Thank you for spoiler josh save me money from buy.,
I do like look Ben new costume interesting what his powers will be how they look should make him villain / anti villain since venom wants nothing do with Spider-Man anymore Spider-Man needs more villains less friends and spider clones popping up spider Gwen for starters

TASM has been such a mess. I'm more than happy to stick with Ahmed's run with Miles. Much better. I wish Marvel would just pick a good writer for Peter and let them do their thing instead of this over-managed "Next Big Thing" crap.

People blame writers, but do these books have editors that can tell them “no” or “been there, done that?”

Ben Reilly has floated between hero, anti-hero and villain over and over it feels like. Making him jealous of Peter’s existence is not new. Him being an outsider while Peter and MJ are together is literally where these characters were in the ‘90’s. They already did the fractured psyche before.

The cycle will repeat itself again. He will be some sort of anti-hero or villain until he finds redemption because deep down he’s still Peter Parker. He will have peace or stability as a hero until he collided with the original Spider-Man again, then repeat.

Put money on it. 😆

So it ultimately means nothing.
What if they have the balls to say later that mysterious guy at the end is Uncle Ben back from the dead and now also a Spidey.

Dumb treatment of a great character. So much to explore in this "Peter Parker but not" potential, and ooo they make him essentially another symbiote with a dumb name.

If Miles can be Spider-Man, so too can Ben be. Have him go elsewhere and be a hero.

What was it Wizard Magazine always said..." The Uggh Spider-Clone Saga"?

Marvel Comics has been so creatively bankrupt since the 1980s, that they are still trying to mine plotlines from 1973-1975.
