Zoe Saldana on Wonder Woman

Her views on women in Hollywood and Wonder Woman in particular.

Johnny Depp’s surprise appearance at at Comic-Con in San Diego this year wasn’t the only highlight of the conference. Latina’s July cover girl Zoe Saldana also stopped by with with Sigourney Weaver, Eliza Dushku, and Elizabeth Mitchell to talk about the role of female heroes in modern pop culture.

Saldana who recently stared alongside Chris Pine in Star Trek, and is starring as Neytiri in this years highly anticipated James Cameron film Avatar said it’s all about picking your battles. "Women in Hollywood are all united in finding better projects, in fighting for better interpretations and better roles," declared Saldana.

Saldana used Weaver as an example, saying Ellen Ripley was a role that could have been a man, but wasn’t. “Thank God for that,” she said. “We’ve come so far in the last 50 years. I mean, we have a black President, for God’s sake.”

Saldana also shared her opinion on another iconic female superhero: Wonder Woman, who has yet to be featured in a full length film. Industry insiders say that several attempts have been made to write a great Wonder Woman script, but people are scared of messing up the iconic character, originally played by Latina legend Linda Carter. Saldana's suggestion was that they turn the heroine into a "Matrix"-style kung fu chick, and that they find someone with a hot body for the title role! When asked about current "It" girl Megan Fox starring as Wonder Woman, Saldana seemed open to the prospect.

I for one hope to the comic Gods (Jack Kirby, Stan Lee) that this role does npt go to Megan Fox, and actress that has calle dWonder Woman a 'lame character' that she doesn't 'get' I would like soemone who can actually act.

"Matrix"-style kung fu chick, and that they find someone with a hot body for the title role!"

hmmmm... I dont think she gets it...

"Saldana seemed open to the prospect" of Megan Fox? uhhh... no.

Photobucket

Megan Fox for obvious reasons is not Wonder Woman.
1) She's not credible
2) she's too young looking
3) she doesnt "get her"
4) she is too short
5) I dont like her

Lee: Hot Damn thats a good pic of Depp & Strange!!
Phinehas
Phinehas - 7/25/2009, 12:31 PM
6) ugly thumbs
7) a pompous ass
8) has a look of an air-head
9) is a proven better fit for roles of tramps and whores
10) I don't like her either!

My re-post:

"into a "Matrix"-style kung fu chick"??????

12) Plus she's done her DC movie!
13) Man, she's unlucky, get it 13 heh heh. Okay i'll stop!

Tobuttica @ ; )

Keep @ Great minds ; )

I honestly thought of her as WW way before SHAMANS sketch though, ever since the very first episode of PRISON BREAK season 3, she was the one! Before that it was BIEL.

Linda Carter for her Mother! ; )

WB you better or we'll all (apart from teabag) come to ya WB studios!!! ; D

Though MORENA BACCARIN don't get THE WASP, she'd be a good WW too!

Phinehas
Phinehas - 7/25/2009, 12:56 PM
14) lacks the screen prescence of royalty
15) She is royally bitchy
16) hasn't proven versatility

I'm open to any (wonder)woman that can fill the role as an antithesis of what we described of Fox.

@ KIR: We have always been on the same page regarding the standards needing to be set for the Amazon Princess! ;-D

. . .What? Did someone who was there to speak about women taking serious roles as modern comic characters SERIOUSLY think that the only aspect of Wonder Woman important enough to comment on is that she needs a 'hot bod'?

As someone who loves real, strong, female characters? [frick] her. And [frick] her ridiculous, action Kung-Fu, spice girl, girl power, Hollywood idea of the character. Diana Prince would kick her ass for having that idea of what a 'strong woman' is.

Suffice to say, that's also a 'no' to Megan Fox. Jodi Lyn O'Keefe might be good, if she spent some time in the gym.

OptionFour I agree with you and I don't even like strong female characters. I've actually been annoyed by them in movies, but for a panel that's suppose to be all girl power and stuff they really shouldn't be talking about needing to have a hot bod.

Same here, Roar. Never liked O'keefe. That Rhona Mitra woman Teabag posted looks like she could fit the stature, though not sure about acting.
