For years the planned Daredevil sequel/reboot has been in “production” but nothing ever happened, the closest we ever got to seeing The Man Without Fear back on the big screen was a sizzle reel created by director Joe Carnahan (The A-Team). Back in 2003 Ben Affleck said there would indeed be a sequel to Daredevil, we never got it. And just a few months ago Marvel finally got the rights back to Daredevil, so now i will list 4 directors who i believe should be on Marvel’s radar to direct the next adventure of The Man Without Fear!

4. Marc Webb
One of films brightest and upcoming directing stars is Marc Webb. After directing the fantastic romantic comedy 500 Days Of Summer and then directing Superhero blockbuster The Amazing Spider-Man and it’s upcoming sequel, Marc Webb has been throwing around ideas for a new film. His unique colors and fantastic action sequences could make for a very gripping and unique Daredevil film, throwing in his usual comedic moments and romantic scenes, Marc Webb could be a fine director for the Daredevil reboot.

3. Sofia Coppola
Daughter of phenomenal film maker Francis Ford Coppola, Sofia is another up and coming director. With this Daredevil franchise, i think Marvel will go for a younger take, that meaning giving new directors a shot at making a big superhero movie. Sofia has directing fantastic films including Lost in Translation, The Virgin Suicides, Somewhere, and the upcoming film The Bling Ring. Due to her background being in film, i could see her father helping her with the film, making a very unique and grounded take on the Man Without Fear!

2. David O’Russell
Fresh of the heels of his newest successful film Silver Linings Playbook. David O’Russell would be a fantastic fit to a new Daredevil film, his fantastic vision on set and brilliant casting picks would only help make Daredevil a worth while superhero again. I honestly think if David O’Russell directed Daredevil we could be looking at the first superhero movie that would be nominated for Best Picture. Now David is not a one hit wonder, he directed such fantastic films as Fighter, Three Kings and Soldiers Play. David could also attract Bradley Cooper to the project and make Bradley play The Man Without Fear.

1. Colin Trevorrow
Yes the guy who is directing the next Jurassic Park film is on this list... And what a surprise. Colin has only directed one movie. And that movie was fantastic, Safety Not Guaranteed is one of the most unique films i have ever seen, from it’s wonderful soundtrack to its gripping story. Colin knows how to make a movie seem big, but look small, the new Daredevil film would not have a huge budget.. Which i’m happy about. Usually when a movie (especially superhero movies) get big budgets they seem to forget the most important part of a movie... A story. Prime examples of this are films like Ghost Rider, Green lantern, Fantastic Four 1&2, Spider-Man 3, X-Men 3, Batman & Robin. All the films i just listed had a budget well over $125 million. I’m hoping the next Daredevil film has a small budget, so we can finally see a real Daredevil film that focusses story, over action.

So what do you guys think? Comment below to let me know your thoughts for who you would like to direct the next Daredevil film and who you would love to see star as the Man Without Fear!

No. Marc Webb as The Amazing Spider-Man and possibly the other two movies. Never seen any of Sofia Coppola's films. David O' Russell is an odd choice and while hasn't proved his skills for action, he does make engaging and powerful dramas ala The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook. Colin Trevorrow doesn't impress me. Safety Not Guaranteed isn't even okay. It's boring, unengaging and put its cast to waste. Not looking forward to him directing Jurassic Park and will never want him to direct DareDevil unless JP4 can prove me otherwise. Out of those four though, I'd go with O' Russell. Personally, I would have have David Slade a good origin script so he could have made DareDevil. A DD film directed by him would be amazing.

Any of those would be interesting. You see I want the Daredevil movie to be different than the other Marvel films, it should be darker and more intense because that's how Daredevil is. He's like Marvel's Batman you might say....

@Rob2814 & Godkiller
Yeah, that's what I wanted as well. Out of the ones you mentioned I'd probably go with O'Russell. He gave us intense films like the fighter, he's a good choice.

Daredevil's upcoming films should seem somewhat like the Nolan Batman films, although not overly so because we don't it to come off as a copycat right?

I like your article though, it's very nicely written.

Knowing Marvel, we'd probably be seeing an unknown director. In saying that, I got no problem with it. You need Marvel to have overarching control of films to make it coherent and fit into the MCU. If Marvel didn't do that and gave complete control of the characters to the directors, we'd be seeing another X-Men series.

Nicolas Winding Refn. Ryan Gosling as Daredevil/Matt Murdock.

I wanna see a Daredevil reboot that's not the traditional super hero and goes for a differant tone than the other Marvel films. Gritty, but stylized. Glad it's back with Marvel Studios. I wanna see Daredevil, Punisher, and Ghost Rider reboots in the MCU.

No to Marc Webb. Love both of his movies, but he's not the right fit for Daredevil.

David O. Russel would be good from a drama/story standpoint, don't know about his action credentials though.

Never seen any films by Coppola or Trevorrow.

Here's a suggestion: David Fincher.

@thejon93rd Nicolas Winding-Refn could be a good choice too, a Daredevil movie filmed in the style of Drive would be stunning and a very refreshing take on the genre. Not sure about Gosling though - the guy's a tremendous actor, but I'm not sure I wanna see him play a superhero (and if I did, I doubt I'd want him as Daredevil) especially with Refn directing, because it'd feel to me like I was just watching a superhero version of Drive.

Nice choices, from the list id go Webb after he does Spider-Man.

In a perfect world, Darren Arenofsky.

Coppola or Carnehann or whatever ( The Grey) would work.

Ryan Gosling for DD

I want Nicolas Winding-Refn if possible.

Darren Arenofsky based on what he wended to do whit Year One or Nicolas Winding-Refn because Drive was amazing. Daredevil need to be a gritty street vigilante movie. Marvel should push there more street base hero like Punisher, DD and Luck Cage. But would they fit in there MCU...

I don't trust Campbell with comic book movie anymore. Well ok because of Casino Royale I could give him another chance.

Of your suggestions I would probably go for O'Russell (I have not seen Safety Not Guaranteed yet, so can't judge Treverow).

I would be extatic if Fincher would consider a Marvel property and think DD would be a good fit, I think he is probably not that interested... think Winding-Refn would possibly consider though and would be more than happy with him also... as I would Aronofsky.

I know Michael Mann only films LA but think he would be able to bring any or all of the Marvel Knights to the screen effectively... David Cronenberg and Spike Lee could also make interesting takes on these sorts of characters while we're fantasy director appointing but I do feel that Marvel would choose an appropriate 'up & comer' who they can... maybe control is the wrong word (maybe it isn't).

In that case, Treverow could be the man... will watch SNG tonight.

Think that Aaron Eckart would make a good DD, about the right age, can play tough and uncompromising yet intelligent.

Not sure for a Batman movie, but for a street vigilante that would have been great.
