There has long been hope among fans that Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito might join a future Marvel or DC movie, with the closest the actor has come to that being a disappointingly small role in The Boys.
Professor X, Magneto, and Mister Freeze are all suggestions that frequently come up, with Esposito often singling those characters out as ones he would love to sink his teeth into as an actor. Now, it appears something is finally in the works courtesy of James Gunn's DC Studios.
During a recent convention appearance, the actor confirmed: "I had been talking to James Gunn about the possibility about being in a movie, so who knows, it could happen soon."
Talking isn't the same as signing up for a role, of course, and no further discussions will be allowed to take place during the SAG-AFTRA strike.
With Gunn hard at work developing Superman: Legacy, speculation is bound to run rampant Esposito is being eyed for Lex Luthor. However, with so many DCU projects on the way as part of the "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters" slate, there are countless roles Gunn might be eyeing the Better Call Saul star for.
If DC Studios is able to sign up Esposito, then it would be a huge win for them. Of course, if it's not a major role, then there's always a chance Marvel Studios can do something with the actor further down the line.
We'll see what happens but it's certainly exciting to think at least some of those many fan casts are possibly one step closer to becoming a reality.
