Yesterday evening, a bombshell story from The Hollywood Reporter made it clear the DCU most definitely won't be the DCEU 2.0.
The planned Man of Steel sequel with Henry Cavill has been shelved, while DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran even shot down Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 3 story treatment because it doesn't fit into their vision. It also looks like the DCEU actors won't return to their original roles, with Jason Momoa now being eyed to play Lobo instead of Aquaman.
A fresh start might be what's best for this franchise, though there are bound to be those unhappy about potentially saying goodbye to their favourite actors and the heroes or villains they've spent the past few years playing.
Now, Gunn has responded to the story in a series of Tweets.
As you can see below, he says that some of what's been reported is true, some is half-true, and some isn't actually correct. Acknowledging that creating a cohesive 10-year plan means making hard decisions, Gunn goes on to say it's important that they fix what isn't working, and knows there will be some fans who won't be happy with what that entails.
While not necessarily confirming or denying anything, in particular, the filmmaker finishes by asking for patience, vowing to do these DC characters justice alongside Safran.
We can't ask for much more than that, even if it means a full-blown reboot...
