SONIC THE HEDGEHOG Star Ben Schwartz Continues His Campaign To Play DC's PLASTIC MAN

Ben Schwartz has upped his campaign to play DC's Plastic Man, expressing his excitement for the role to multiple outlets at CinemaCon this year and comparing the hero's big-screen potential to Deadpool.

It's no secret that Ben Schwartz wants to play Plastic Man. The former Parks and Rec standout, known for his role as the obnoxious Jean-Ralphio Saperstein, has been campaigning to play the DC superhero for well over a year and he seemingly hasn't let up.

At CinemaCon this year, Schwartz, who is voicing Sonic the Hedgehog in the upcoming live-action film, was asked on multiple occasions about the prospect of playing DC's Plastic Man. Each time, he expressed incredible excitement.

Speaking to Comicbook.com, Schwartz said Plastic Man has the potential to be to DC what Deadpool is for Marvel. Here's what he had to say about the stretchy thief-turned-crimefighter.

“If you look at the original Plastic Man, he’s a thief, he gets these superpowers, and then he uses his connections with being in the crooked world to aid the police. But in my head, how much fun if he was a thief, got superpowers, and was like, ‘Screw it, I want to keep being crooked.’ But he’s also, if you look at the cartoons or the other iterations of him, he’s funny! He’s so funny. And I think what Ryan Reynolds and Tim Miller did with Deadpool, you could have a funny superhero in DC. Shazam! just did it and I think it’s gonna be great. That’s it, I just love that character a lot. I think I’d get to be goofy if I ever got the chance to do it."

His comments echo what he told MTV News when asked about potentially auditioning for the role. He referred to his potential casting for the part as "a dream" - especially if Shazam! director David F. Sandberg is on board to helm the film.

When news that Warner Bros. was working on a Plastic Man movie broke last year, Schwartz was one of the first to enthusiastically express interest in the part.

Clearly, this is a role he's been eyeing for quite some time now, and it appears that fans are on board with it as well. Schwartz appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden this week, opening fan art that depicted him as the stretchy superhero.

Do you think Ben Schwartz would be a good choice to play Plastic Man?

What the hell, just let him do it. He seems as good a fit as any.

He might be good, but I personally want to see Jake Johnson get the job instead.

@Origame - I could see that working for Jake, but I didn't think Sony was allowed to use Parker.

@BlackIceJoe - That’s funny you mention him, because I think Max Greenfield would make a great Plastic Man:

@BlackIceJoe - i dont see why not. They still hold the rights. The deal with disney was a joint thing. In fact technically the holland spiderman movies are still sony movies, they just take place in the mcu. Sony can at any time stop the deal and make their own solo spiderman if they wanted to.

@mgeoff88 - That is interesting that you bring him up, because I could have seen him working as Ted Kord, but I'd have no problem if he played Plastic Man instead.

He would be great in the role. I know Lord and miller are fanpicks for everything but they’d be perfect for this, maybe Rich Moore
