Deadpool far exceeded expectations at the box office back in 2016 but it doesn't look like the sequel will be doing the same thing come May 18th. The early tracking data is in and it points to the movie earning a solid $100 million during its first three days of release. That's a far cry from the record-breaking $132 million the previous instalment did (over the 4-day Presidents Day holiday, it scored $152.1 million in total). By the time its box office run was over, it had made $363 million in the US.
Deadpool 2, on the other hand, is now projected to finish its run with $242 million, a good result but one which is obviously a sizeable drop from what the Merc with the Mouth's first solo outing did.
To be fair, the sequel is unlikely to have a massive budget and when you throw in what it will make overseas, there's a very good chance it will be a considered a hit at the worldwide box office and that it will turn a massive profit. Considering the fact Deadpool 2 follows hot on the heels of Avengers: Infinity War and Solo: A Star Wars Story, it's actually a miracle that it's even projected to make this much.
