DEADPOOL 2 Star And Producers Weigh In On Fox/Disney Merger; GAMBIT And X-FORCE Still In The Works

With Disney set to acquire Fox next year, there's a lot of speculation about what's next for the Marvel characters owned by the studio and now Ryan Reynolds and Simon Kinberg address Deadpool's future.

Ryan Reynolds' Merc with the Mouth will return in Deadpool 2 on May 18th but could that be the last time we'll see this version of the character? After all, the Fox/Disney deal is still in the works and will more than likely be completed by next summer so Fox will need to move fast to get him back on the big screen. Now, the actor has shared his thoughts on what could come next for the beloved character.

"I really genuinely don’t know a thing about it," admits Reynolds. "I read that [CEO and chairman] Bob Iger felt that there’s plenty of room in that universe to have a rated-R character like Deadpool. This
is completely conjecture on my part, but I wouldn’t imagine that Disney bought Fox to dismantle it or something like that. I think that Disney bought Fox so it could have that in its arsenal."

Incorporating Deadpool into the MCU - albeit with an R-Rating - will be no easy feat but franchise producer Simon Kinberg also seems to be under the impression it will happen. He also makes it clear that Gambit and X-Force remain in the works for now, so those could be released before the merger.

"We haven’t had any discussions yet about what the Disney acquisition of Fox would look like for the Marvel properties because I think legally they’re not allowed to talk about it until it’s done. So no we haven’t talked about it all. We’re just moving forward as we move forward. Once Drew Goddard’s ready we’ll get into X-Force and, believe it or not, we’re still trying to get Gambit [starring Channing Tatum as the cajun mutant] up and running. The hope is to keep moving forward until we hear otherwise. To me, I have no idea what to expect but I think it could be really exciting."

What we do know is that Kevin Feige is probably going to want to reboot the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises so it will be very interesting seeing how Wade Wilson potentially fits into that. What do you guys think? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts on these comments in the usual place.
