DEADPOOL: Ed Skrein On The Origins Of 'Ajax'; Whether He'll Wear A Costume Or Not
Former Game Of Thrones alum Ed Skrein will play Alax in Fox's upcoming Deadpool movie, and in a new interview he discusses his take on the Marvel character. Can we expect to see some of the more outlandish costumes/armor this villain has sported in the comics over the years?
Deadpool is definitely shaping up to be one of the most faithful comic book adaptations of all time, and Ed Skrein maintains this was always the intention going in. The former Game Of Thrones actor will play the movie's bad guy (well, this is Wade Wilson we're talking about so let's say "antagonist") Ajax, and says he thinks they have created "the first post-modern Hollywood superhero movie", and that he hopes studios take a similar approach with some of their "less marketable" characters.
But what of his character? Will this big screen take on Ajax be faithful to the Marvel Comics version? It definitely sounds like he will be - at least to his initial appearances. However, those hoping to see an OTT armored-up Ajax might be disappointed, as will anyone expecting the movie to go into the details of his origin story.
"No, we don't go too deep into Ajax's backstory. We mention it, it's very faithful to the first section of Ajax in the comics, the backstory that we see, the flashbacks in the comics, and so we're very faithful to that. There's a second half of Ajax in the comics, where he comes back five years later with this big crazy suit and stuff, and we didn't touch on that, so this is the early Ajax. We've stayed very faithful to that."
