Fandango recently caught up with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the co-writers and producers of Deadpool 2, and got all the intel on the film's biggest cameos, including a few that you almost definitely missed on your first watch.

Get all the details below, but be forewarned, the cameos are all extremely spoiler-y in nature, so proceed with caution:

Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman may have declined to reprise his role as Wolverine, but that didn't exactly stop Ryan Reynolds and company from making sure that the beloved X-Men actor still had a major presence in the sequel. James Mangold's Logan is referenced several times and the sequel actually opens with a closeup of a handcrafted music box that contains an homage to Wolverine's death scene. Reese reveals that the music box was specially crafted for the film and is actually fully functional. "I think it was a Ryan idea to start that way, or he wanted to do a music box. A Logan music box. So they designed it, and it actually does turn and play. It did not play that song, because later we added in the Air Supply song and then we had to match the music to the Air Supply song, so we had the composer do the sing-song version. But it does turn! It does spin! I forget what song it actually plays, but, yeah, I mean we've got a lot of nods to a lot of movies, and we just decided to go ahead and kick it off with one. It gets a laugh." As for its current whereabouts, it sounds like it may have made its way to Reynolds' home.

Jackman also sort of appears during one of the post-credit stingers, which is very cool even if it's only through archive footage from X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

X-Men

One of the original film's best jokes saw Deadpool take a dig at Fox for only giving him the budget for two X-Men characters and the sequel contains a very similar joke as Wade wonders aloud why there are never any other X-Men around whenever he visits the X-Mansion. Well, as it turns out, this time, there were actually a handful of classic X-Men heroes onhand just around the corner.

In a very quick appearance, Professor X (James McAvoy), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), and Quicksilver (Evan Peters) all show up in the background of a scene while Wade is wandering around the mansion. They all appear in the same frame as Wade for a split second before Beast quietly and quickly shuts the door to avoid getting noticed by the unpredicable antihero. Wernick details the fun sequence,"Yeah, Fox is too cheap, so we thought we would nod to that, and just have a glimpse of them in the background. Simon Kinberg was directing the Dark Phoenix movie in Montreal, so we shot against a green screen and the mansion in Vancouver, and then he shot separately, later in the summer, a couple of months later. The actual cast, James McAvoy and those guys, and then we melded the two and composited the two together through visual effects. It's real brief, but it always gets a laugh."

Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt was reportedly a finalist for Cable, but while that casting didn't exactly work out, the Academy Award-winner still managed to make a blink and you'll miss it appearance as Telford Porter, a.k.a. the Vanisher. He shows up during the parachute sequence and is blown into some electrical wires where he quickly meets his end along with the rest of Wade's ill-fated X-Force.

Reese explains how the A-list cameo to be, "That was a later cameo. In the script we never saw who Vanisher was. Then he gets sparked by the wires, and we thought, 'oh my god', perfect cameo. We were like, 'who's gonna say no, who's the first to say no, let's go after the hardest get in Hollywood', and so we reached out to Brad -- Ryan [Reynolds] did. Brad's kids loved the first movie, and so he jumped at the chance. He did it for scale, and a cup of coffee." Reynolds actually delivered on the coffee too, "Yes. That he insisted Ryan deliver to him on set, which happened. It was a real treat. That these massive A-list stars wanted to come on and play in your sandbox -- that's a real treat for us, and for Ryan. That Brad Pitt and Matt Damon want to be in our movie."

Matt Damon and Alan Tudyk

Yes, you read that right. Academy Award-winner Matt Damon (Jason Bourne), who also made a quick cameo in Thor: Ragnarok last year, is in Deadpool 2. He appears in the scene where Cable (Josh Brolin) arrives in present-day and is one of the two rednecks that are sitting in the pick-up truck, talking about how toilet paper is insufficiently hygienic. The other trucker's identity? Alan Tudyk (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).

Wernick detailed how Damon managed to pull off being in two very different Marvel blockbusters within six months, "Yes! He was also in Thor: Ragnarok (see above), and in this case he disappeared so deeply into it. We had him out on set and he was in heavy make-up, done by Bill Corso, so you could never tell it was him. That's why nobody notices him. He did a little riff on Matthew McConaughey's voice. If you listen, you'll kinda hear McConaughey. It almost sounds like it was McConaughey doing the cameo -- you'd never know, he's so good. He just falls right into the character, and you'd never know it was Matt."

Ryan Reynolds as the Juggernaut

By now, you all probably know that the unstoppable Juggernaut does indeed have a role to play in Deadpool 2, but what you probably didn't know is that Ryan Reynolds is the one who actually provides his voice. Get more details on that surprise by heading to the link HERE.

Also, considering that the mutant villain is still very much alive by the time the credits roll, Fandango asked the writers about whether or not we could see him return down the line as a future member of the X-Force. "Oh, that would be really fun. That's a good idea to have him come out of that pool and actually join up. He's fun, a fun character, and Ryan Reynolds did the voice. Not sure if you noticed that. He's a force of nature. Whether or not they need two big muscly guys if they're going to use Colossus or Juggernaut, we'll see, but why not? X-Force is very, morally flexible, and there is a lot of ambivalence and gray area there, relative to the X-Men, so maybe Juggernaut could be on the team - it'd be fun." said Wernick.

Post-Credit Shenanigans

After the controversial decision to kill off Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) before the opening credits rolled, the epic post-credits sequence managed to fix the timeline as Wade (Ryan Reynolds) went back in time to resurrect his lady love before also correcting a few of his other career missteps, including resurrecting Peter (Rob Delaney), Deadpool's role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and his decision to accept the lead role in Green Lantern. Says Wernick, "It's all in good fun. And then we used the coda as an opportunity to bring some people back to life, and get some emotional closure, and some possible resurrections for future movies, and then also to go back and make fun, poke fun of Ryan's career a little bit. We had fun, and Hugh Jackman was great because he cameoed. Just by the virtue of the old footage, we needed his permission to use that footage and he's a buddy of Ryan's and they loved faux sniping at each other in the media which is really fun, and so Hugh said absolutely, you should definitely use it."

As for whether or not the post-credits stingers are canon in the two-movie Deadpool Cinematic Universe, well, it appears as though they are, meaning Vanessa will likely have a part to play in X-Force and/or Deadpool 3 whenever either movie finds its way into theaters. While Reese and Wernick both admit the stingers do essentially invalidate the events of the movie, it was an idea they just couldn't pass up. Wernick said, "Yeah, just go back in a time machine and fix everything. Why do we even have a movie? As long as you don’t think about it too hard, you’re fine." and Reese adds, "It was one we were willing to kind of forgive because it was such a fun idea."

After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

Damn I recognized Alan Tudyk but not Matt Damon!

Great movie! Very funny!

I will say though that some of the humor was forced at certain times and fell flat for me. Also I would have loved some background on Cable.

I actually loved The Juggernaut, but at the same time it was a head scratcher regarding him being in prison with his helmet on!

But when a movie is fun, you just sort of look over those things sometimes.

@JoeMomma29 - Maybe its tied to him in a certain way that it cannot be removed. Or they were scared to get close enough to try and take it off.

@smgmayhem - No Deadpool was getting if off, he stuck his sword and was twisting if off. After he threw DP, he twisted it back into place.

I was merely pointing out that Juggernauts big weakness is no helmet.....granted the GA does not know that.

@JoeMomma29 - The Juggernaut isn't a mutant, so he can't have his powers removed. You'll notice, he still had his powers, while he was in prison. The first time we get wind of him, the prison shakes, and then Deadpool makes the comment about foreshadowing. Juggernaut also didn't have a mutant collar. So, they must've been using some other sort of technology built into the cell in order to hold him.

Very funny movie, as good as the original. I laugh so hard last night.

As far as the end credits go and them being canon, this technically makes this the third FoX-Men timeline.

Especially considering that the scene from X-Men: Origins - Wolverine (which takes place in 1979) was erased from the timeline by the events of DOFP and that, in order to access this timeline, Deadpool would have first had to have gone back to sometime before DOFP in order to restore those events.

And if they include the baby Hitler scene in Leitch's extended version (which I think they should, since it's only done for comedic effect, not horrific effect), then even the events of X-Men: First Class and the beginnings of both X-Men: Origins - Wolverine and The Wolverine would be erased.

Here's a handy guide for those that are severely confused by all of these timelines...

First Timeline:

X-Men: First Class.
X-Men: Origins - Wolverine.
X-Men.
X2: X-Men United.
X-Men: The Last Stand.
The Wolverine.
X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Second Timeline:

X-Men: First Class.
X-Men: Days of Future Past.
X-Men: Apocalypse.
Deadpool.
Logan.
Deadpool 2.

Third Timeline:

X-Men: First Class.
X-Men: Origins - Wolverine (up until the scene when Barakapool makes his entrance).

Fourth Timeline:

Deleted baby Hitler scene.

@GwenLantern - Logan takes place in the first timeline thougj, since they make references to X-Men 1.

@GwenLantern - ....ugh....timeline?I just think it's suppose to be funny that's all....Xmen won't mention Deadpool in their movies so he doesn't exist in their timeline(just yet)!
GwenLantern
GwenLantern - 5/18/2018, 10:46 AM
@TruePunishment - Could just be a similar set of events. If it were the original timeline, then all the X-Men, including Professor X would have been killed by sentinels, already, as they were in DOFP.

@incredibleTalk - Just 'cause it's done for laughs and Deadpool is a self-aware fourth-wall breaker doesn't mean it's not canon.
Deadpool in the comics is also 616 canon.
They just play it free and easy, is all. I like it. They want to kill characters off because it works for the film? They can kill 'em off. They want to bring them all back for the sequel? Time travel.

Deadpool just makes all these transparent story needs and plot devices that much easier.

It was pretty good... Not calling it the best ever (I almost like DP1 a little better), but it was everything I expected and wanted it to be. A little more emotional at some points than I expected.

**POTENTIAL SPOILER**
Too bad they didn't realize how bad that certain persons CGI was while making it. They could've made a joke about how bad superhero CGI can be. Missed opportunity on that little moment.

Josh Brolin as Cable on DP2, It was very sad

his performance was almost irrelevant

@Fanmar16 - I did not mind Brolin as Cable but I did not care much for the character. I mean there was very little background info on him to care. Though I did like his look and how he showcased his powers.

@TheUnworthyThor - I loved how he just said he was from Mojoworld and it's perfectly acceptable, because it's Deadpool.

I wonder if there was ever a version of the script where he backs up Domino by saying that he also knows another guy who has luck superpowers (Longshot).

Am I the only one who prefers DP2 to the first?

The first had a really generic origin story, a bland as hell villain, a "save the girl" plot line, and only had a few great action scenes (the bridge and the final battle).

DP2 gets to go crazy, uses more X-Men cameos, has better intertextual references, and is generally set loose to be silly and fun.

Would I have liked more backstory for Cable? Sure, but that's what X-Force is for.

And how is nobody talking about the orphanage being an Essex orphanage. Will Fox ever pay off all these Mr. Sinister easter eggs, or will Disney swallow them beforehand?
